1943 Kai PCE has severe emulation bugs

Post by Neon »

Can anyone who owns a legit copy verify this?

Problems:

- no high score displayed, though there are 4 capital R's randomly at the top of the screen;

- The sound between magic engine version .99b5 and 1.0 is *completely* different;

- Weapon counter does not count down, even on hard difficulty

- There are two modes selectable in options, H and V. Which I would assume are for TATE, but if such is the case, they don't work

Magic Engine is probably the closest I'll be able to come to having an RGB modded PC Engine till a year from now, if anyone can help I'd be grateful. Any video footage in circulation of this port? I'd like to hear what the game sounds like on a real console.

I don't own the game but I can tell you that when I played in magic engine V0.9 the weapon time limit did go down. There is no tate, the other screen mode only changes to a wider horizontal resolution which has the effect of adding borders at the sides (Soldier Blade also has this option)

For many PCE shooters, choosing H or V modes just selects between the PCE's 256 or 320 pixel horizontal resolution. In 320 mode, the resolution is higher, so the game appears narrower and has black borders on the sides. It is not a true tate mode. :-(

On most emulators, of course, you will not see a change when selecting either mode; it only makes a difference on the real system.
