Another PC Engine Q

Post by E. Randy Dupre »

Hey guys.

Somebody's just managed to wreck my step-down convertor, shagging its insides and meaning that I can't use my PCE. Was wondering if a PSU from any of the UK consoles would work, in a similar fashion to how the UK Megadrive PSU can be used to power an NTSC Neo Geo.

Obviously, want somebody to yay or nay this, instead of trying it out for myself and blowing the console up in the process. Paying for another step-down, I can live with. Having to buy a new PCE, I couldn't.

Yep, totally possible. In fact, I have a Mega Drive PSU for my PCE Duo and some sort of generic Telegames PSU for my PCE.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Cool.

Just noticed that my Megadrive PSU won't fit in the PCE/CDROM Interface Unit's socket. My UK SNES PSU, however, does. Will that still be safe?

Sorry if it's an obvious question. I don't want to hurt the old dear, though

Well, I bit the bullet and tried it. And the results are... odd.

HuCards work fine, only I'm not getting any sound out of my TV (well, I am, but I have to turn the volume riiiiiiight up and even then it's barely noticable), and the CDROM won't load.

Too little power going into the Interface Unit, or something like that? Increasingly looking like I might have to shell out for a new stepdown - got Spriggan on the way, and I'm not going to be able to play it with things as they stand.

Just buy an universal/travel PSU. They sell them at Radio Shack here in the states, so maybe your local Maplins may have one.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
