Can anyone tell me if a sega JVS board would work with a taito egret 3?
The Taito JVS for type x seems like it has an amp onboard amongst other stuff.. if there is compatibility between brands, what does the Typex offer over
the sega JVS boards, and are there any other alternatives?
thx!
clueless about JVS, plz enlighten me!

Sega I/O has no amp.
Sega V2 I/O has an amp.
Capcom I/O has an amp.
Taito I/O has an amp.
They'll all work in an E3.
The Type X one is completely compatible with all the wiring harnesses for buttons 4-6 and stereo audio, you won't need to build any adapter looms whereas you will for any of the others.

Thanks for that!
so, the amp is exclusively for Type X audio output only, and any of the other adapters cant handle more than 3 buttons?

The amp can be used for any line level output, the point is the E3 has a connector for the speakers to plug into the amp directly without needing any other wiring. The same for the kick harness, there's a cabinet connection for it.

Ok, Im starting to understand, so with any other JVS, what would other additions would I need to connect a PC with a JVS pac to one of the NON taito JVS boards for it to be fully working with sound / buttons without any additional mods to the cabinet?
basicaly I am looking for a "pc on a plank" solution that I could drop into any egret 3 cab and have it working straight away..
sorry if any of this sounds dumb, I was unaware of JVS until a few days ago..
thx!

You'd need a wiring adapter to connect up the extra buttons, and a wiring adapter for stereo audio. Not arduous by any means but you'd need to source the connectors and build the things. If you were using the Sega one you'd also want an amp.
The Taito JVS/AMP PCB is 100% the easiest option if you can find one. I use it for exactly this purpose (Google image search JVS AMP Egret 3 and a bunch of the pics are mine - Rogalian). It's purpose built for this cabinet, and the Type X is just a PC.
The only bit to be careful of is make sure the PC is outputting the correct monitor resolution as none of these boards perform any sort of filtering to block "bad" resolutions.
