I just ordered some of these from Fillmore Games after a little mameing and noticing they were pretty cheap. Here's a few first impressions.
Shooting Paradise
This one looks great, sounds a tiny bit obnoxious (maybe in a good way), but deosn't seem to play so hot. Some of the characters seem really week and you get swamped. It seems like the fun is driven more by appreciation for the classy references more than the act of blowing stuff up. Maybe it well get more fun as I get a little better at it. It plays kind of like an un-polished strikers. Sure looks great, though.
Gratia
This one rocks. Plays a little jerkier and primitive than Blazing Star, but also a little faster. The hit detection seems kind of crappy. Mostly, it's pretty fast and action packed, with few dead spots. Cool graphics and straight forward gameplay. The bombing gets you a little frantic as it shoots below the ship and there's enemies at the top of the screen. Awesome cinema break art! The play and motion reminds me a little bit of Zed Blade (though I've only mamed that, so havn't even used a joystic on it)- you know, big objects moving around real fast.
Desert War
This one is really good. Gameplay wise, it seems the coolest of the bunch. Picking up hostages, 3 hit lifebar, and trying to dodge fast bullets with a huge helicopter are all intense and thrilling. Sounds and yelling are awesome, music gets a little repetitive- but isn't so bad and is mostly under the explosions. In general, this game just packs the screen and the speakers like a good game should. This one's great for 1c runs as your damage and weapons carry over to the next level in a real essential way.
Has anyone else tried these? Are there any other hot games for the mega 32? I think these 3 were worth getting. I've mames the other airplane game and it looks good too.
