What are you currently listening to?
Since all I do now a days is fix electronics and go RGB crazy, I thought it would be nice to take a load off for a change and be a little bit more formal... So lets just start off with what we're currently listening too right now.

Steven Wilson's new album: Hand. Cannot. Erase.
If you're familiar with his solo work, it's basically more of the same, though maybe a bit more straightforward this time. I bought the limited edition and listened to the 5.1 Bluray mix last night and was quite blown away by the sheer clarity of the recording.

Perfect Life is a fantastic track. I wish I had the setup to listen to his surround mixes.
There's already a thread for this in the off topic forum, btw.

Wouldn't this be better in Off Topic?
Anyway, I was just listening to the Child of Light OST while studying for a midterm. I'm not particularly interested in the game itself but the soundtrack is very nice.
Now I'm listening to the Angel's Egg OST. The movie's kind of strange and I'm not sure what I think about it, but the soundtrack's stuck with me for some reason.

Moving to OT - there are a couple of music-ish threads in there, not sure which one would be most appropriate to merge with, so leaving this intact for now.

Re: What are you currently listening too?
Even though i've read it before I am now listening to the audiobook of Starship Troopers from Robert A. Heinlein.
I know, that's really lazy but I don't read anywhere near the amount I used to and it's something to do when i'm in bed instead of watching TV. Perhaps Dune , Dune Messiah and Children of dune will be next but it's hard to pick up where you left off when you're doing it through youtube.

Re: What are you currently listening too?
Hmm... let's see here.
Lately i've been listening to a lot of J Dilla, Kurt Rosenwinkel (makes me wanna practice guitar for real again) and D'Angelo's latest album Black Messiah.
All comes highly recommended, but if you're the least bit interested in soul derivative music then def. check out Black Messiah. It's teh shit.

some tigran hamasyan - shadow theater. been on a big kick since I saw him last month in chicago on his mockroot tour. armenian folk/jazz/prog metal pianist influenced by meshuggah/tool and a bunch of other genres - some parts kinda remind me of between the buried and me.
weasel walter just released a new no wave/free jazz cd on bandcamp titled "fragments" which is unreleased work from 1999 - present. been listening to a lot of that today too haha

saw them on their US tour and waited nearly a decade to do so. It was everything I was hoping for and more. you ever listen to mouse on the keys? another japanese post rock band but with two pianists and a drummer.Special World wrote:Toe - Idle Plot (post rock)

Thanks for the recommendation! I was pretty deeply into Holdsworth during my early high school years (transcribed some solos and played some songs) but haven't listened that much to him these last couple of years. Actually prefer his solo playing when he was a bit more rock influenced (i.e. Tony Williams Lifetime)!Some-Mist wrote: have you preordered allan's holdsworth's new cd "tales from the vault"? figured you might be a fan if you like rosenwinkel and it's one of my most anticipated releases this year
Tigran Hamasyan is awesome btw.
This is something you might like; Some mates from high school

it's actually a buncha (I think?) old unreleased content - so hopefully there will be some rock-ish stuff in there for yaEaglet wrote:Thanks for the recommendation! John Coltrane Quartet - Naima (live in 1965)
This clip never ceases to amaze me. Caught live when Coltrane and his quartet were at their absolute peak (imho) with Coltrane laying down his trademark (for the era) complex textures and McCoy generating incredible depth on the piano spanning a vast array of emotions. I keep coming back to this clip a few times each year and I still find myself discovering new things in it. Best enjoyed with a fine glass of whiskey.

Been listening to the Hotline Miami 2 soundtrack all this week. A damn shame it's the only good thing about the sequel...

Cathedral - Hopkins (The Witchfinder General)
Wow, that riff is too good. I'm going to have to learn this one.

Maybe the title isn't a grammatical error but a clever reference to the fact this is a duplicate thread?

The old thread is so huge and ungainly. I think this one could be more like stuff that you're listening to at the spur of the moment. Which none of this stuff I'm listening to is.
Tokyo Shoegazer - Turnaround (Full Album HQ)
Sway - Fall
Pallbearer - Foundations of Burden
Can anyone recommend some bands that sound like Pallbearer? I could really see myself getting into that kind of gloomy/mopey doom metal.
