I DID IT! -Off Topic Edition-

Post by ACSeraph »

So I know a lot of people on here work hard at gaming achievements outside of the shmup genre and I think we need a place to start sharing those hard fought victories. What have you guys been working hard at lately and what have you accomplished? Hell it's OT so even Life accomplishments are fair game here!

Just to get things started, I just completed my 1ccs of Splatterhouse 1-3 8)

Congrats man. 8)

I recently got all the achievements for Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. Only people that play it know how much of a big deal that is.
I've had the achievement whore mentality for many years, it's probably translated very well into shmups.

After 2.5 years of saving pennies and acting like I'm broke, I finally put away the final cheque for the down payment on a house. I live in a area that has very high housing prices, so it's a big deal to me.

Of course once I have a house then game collecting won't really be an option ... but still....

Fuck man, that's insane. I'm playing it on PS4 and looking at the trophy list makes me feel queasy. Great game though.

Cheers man. I might try recording a blue baby run on hard mode and try to beat all the bosses possible in one run.

Been playing the original Forza on xbox lately. I've raged almost 15 times at the Classic Cars endurance race because I've come so close to winning many times but have not. Last night I managed to actually win the race. I like the fact that in this race the car you win is one you have to go and beat. Strategy finally paid off and I managed to pass the Ferrari while he was still getting to his pit box and he couldn't catch me in 5 laps after me being over 15 seconds ahead. Finally, and now probably onto other endurance races that are 10x as hard. Excited to finally win!

Good job man! Doing all 100 levels in one sitting must've been really tiring.

I'm getting married soon, most likely in August. Took me a lot longer than I would have liked to get that one figured out, but I'm fortunate to have finally found the one, even if it took me a while to realize it.

Congrats Vexorg!

I've been accepted to an MBA program in London. I fly over sometime in August for a year-long program. I also got a decent scholarship, but I'm still beside myself when thinking about the cost. Trying to figure out if my firm would be willing to let me work remotely while I'm in school. But since I don't plan to go back to them afterwards, I think that's a long shot. So I'm looking forward to a lot of frugality and debt - but I'm still quite excited for the program to start.

Just got 15 million karma with the scythe in Ninja Gaiden II survival. (Twitch highlight, complete with me complaining every time I'm about to die: http://www.twitch.tv/iconoclast89/c/6299534)

That was the first time I made it into the 4th loop with the scythe. I wound up getting killed by the mech fiend's jumping attack because the hitbox on that thing is absolutely ridiculous. Ah well. That run bumped me up to 97m karma total, so I just need to improve with some of my weaker weapons to break 100. I think I'll go for the Falcon Talons next, but that weapon is really hard to use in survival because of the mech and gaja waves. It blows my mind that YROGRVLNT managed to get 21 million with it, since I assume he made it to the 5th loop with a score like that. Dude's a legend.

More people ought to play this game. There's already a small & dedicated fanbase, but I think a lot of the people around here would really enjoy survival mode especially. It's structured like an arcade game, it's hard as fuck, and it has a great scoring system. Even if you ignore the campaign and the rest of mission mode entirely, the survival missions alone would make NG2 my favorite action game by a huge margin.

The original NG2. Sigma 2 has some decent additions and fixes, but as a whole, it's a dumbed down, bastardized version of the game imo. This comparison is the tip of the iceberg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDAiYc_sy8A

Quite easy to do if you master the elbow attack. Those pesky spears though. I always die on purpose on the long stage in the woods too on time over.

I remember the first time I beat the crab boss. Absolutely harrowing. Well done!

Now you've got to finish it in less than 30 minutes, so you don't end up on field 28 ! You were only one level away if you beat the crab. Or even better, start speedrunning the shortest path and skip the bosses entirely (as it was meant to be played, IMO!)

Congratulations KAI! :)
That crab boss is indeed such an annoyance, mostly because of how long it takes to beat it. Unless you consider yourself done with the series (which would be a shame), you should try UK Shun as the bosses are much better implemented in that game, or go for the short route without any bosses, as MX7 mentionned. It is one of the most fun routes because of how fast it is.

Thanks guys.
Tried a speedrun using a different route and I cleared it in less than 6 mins.

Field 55 was easier than I though.

EDIT: 4 mins! the safe route is so lame...

I've played Shun a thousand times. My current record is 6:32.
