Recca Artwork?

Post by cicada88 »

Aside from the cover/label/manual artwork, does anyone have any Recca related artwork?

Does the inside of the manual feature any drawings or other artwork?

Fan-made stuff would be cool too. Toys, models, flyers, posters, ads--Please post anything you have!

The manual just has a handful of sparse, functional diagrams explaining the Option types. If you've seen the box front, you've seen the package's best artwork.

Damn, I was hoping there was at least some black and white artwork in the manual.

Just had a look at the VGMdb pages for the Legend Sound Series disc and Naxat Shooting Collection, nothing in those booklets either it seems. I guess doujinshi would be your best bet.

Yeah, I haven't been able to find much on some cursory searches.

Does the manual have any kind of story or details? I am particularly looking for the main ships name or enemy names.

There's a story page, again sparse with plain text. The Virtual Console release's digital manual basically translated and reconstructed the FC manual using sprites instead of diagrams. I seem to recall its webpage having an upload, I'll look around.

edit: found this at neogaf, copied straight from the digital manual:
The year is 2302 AD.

The galaxy had been unified by the humans, and the Galaxy Federation was about to form an alliance with the Republics of Andromeda. Then the Republics were suddenly attacked by tens of thousands of spaceships believed to be from the Toron nebula. After 30 days of constant battle, the Andromeda Allied Fleet was annihilated. The first reinforcements the Galaxy Federation sent were defeated in a mere two days. Now the mysterious spaceships have invaded our galaxy. The Galaxy Federation Army has tried in vain to hold its ground. The enemy ships are getting closer to Earth. The army has lost 1,200 fleets, and casualties have reached 3,200,000. The enemy's firepower has far exceeded that of the humans...until now. Recca, a lone fighter jet with the newest technology, is about to take off to carry out the ultimate mission for the survival of humankind.
Usual shooter fare, but it's always good to know your ship's name. ^_~

I've never seen anything Recca-related other than the game itself, the soundtrack, and the unofficial VHS (later reprinted as DVD) superplay with booklet, all of which I have.

The booklet has tons of text which I'm guessing explains some of the game's history as well as its influence. It also has every enemy's movement patters, boss attacks and other things explained with simple diagrams.

The ship's name is simply "State-of-the-art-Cruising-Fighter Recca".
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Wow that booklet sounds like the best bet for some enemy names etc

You should think about submitting some scans or photos to shmuplations for translation

By the way, the monochromatic pink kanji REKKA title screen is awesome. Love the design of that.

This is a rather abstract depiction of Recca and one of the bosses that I drew several years ago:

Yes, that is a good idea to have the recca guide book translated. The book is worth having. Lots of diagrams that depict enemy attack-patterns. I own the US reproduction too. The manual is fairly thin and cointains only a few images and a very short cover of the story. I have not seen any official player guides for recca either unlike most shmups around that time. The guide book that comes with the recca superplay DVD I think has extracts taken from Japanese game magazines at the time. I have not looked at it for a while but I may be able to take some photos and find out how many pages it has. All in all I woul recommend it. Is the CD worth having? It seems to be a bit expensive these days.

Cheers,

Minty.
