BVM-20F1U RGB, NES, SNES QUESTIONS

Post by SNK-NEO-GEO »

Hello,
Newbee here and I appoligize in advace for my 1st post and asking the cominity for help without contributing.

After reading the article "In Search of Scanlines: The Best CRT Monitor for Retro Gaming" by WESLEY FENLON I started my quest to find the BVM-20F1U and I finally found one which cost a pretty penny.

My question..
1.. NESRGB - ebay is showing those for over $350. I would like to know what is the community reconmendation to get the best installation or kit for NESRGB. I also see services on ebey for RGB installation which requires the board to be purchased, I found the board kit at etim.net.au with an USA distributor. I also came across the "Super 8 bit Video Game System" but I am not sure if it has RGB built in. I am looking for the most effcient and cost effective way to get RGB on the NES in the USA. I have my old NES handy to be modded if needed for NESRGB. But I would like to hear your recommendation.. I want NES with RGB running on the BVM-20F1U lag free:)

2. NESRGB cables - I am not sure what I would need to connect the NESRGB to the BVM-20F1U. Do I just need an RGB cable? who mankes them and where can I get one? or Do I need the NESRGB cable and a scart system like the XRGB-MINI then connect that to the BVM-20F1U? I see a few cable on ebay but not sure what I need.

3. The SNESRGB jr - I see that these are not that expensive on ebay which I can get if the community does not recomend a better place to buy one.. some question as the NESRG cables and scart system?

4. TruboDUO - I have TurboDuo Jap/black version.. do those systems need to be modify for RGB or do they out put RGB? same question as the NESRGB cables and Scart system?

5. Audio out of the BVM-20F1U - my undestanding is that the BVM-20F1U does not have internal speakers.. what system do I need or recomend to get audio out of the NES/SNES/TurboDuo/OMEGA NeoGeo MVS.

6. BVM-20F1U settings - my undestanding is that settings for the video input can be save and trasfer using external controller board using the PCMCIA memory card slot. Does the comunity have a repository where indivual users share their prefer settings?

7. MAME - How or what do I need to connect a PC running MAME into the BVM-20F1U? Grooobmame? soft15hrz using a supported card? I used to have two mame cabs running a PC and ArcadeVGA cards, then I moved on to soft15hrs on the cab but due to family changes I had to sell my MAME cabs. My currect setup is a ROG SWiFT, SLI 970 SDLMAME using Lottes shader. I would like to see how MAME runs on the BVM-20F1U if that is even possible.

Thank you for reading and for your input.. Your advace is hightly appreciated. Again, I appologize for my first post.

regards

Welcome to the boards!

1) $350 is certainly on the top end of what you would pay for a RGB modded NES these days. The mod isn't this easy, so it will cost some $$, but you know what a NES costs and you know how much Timm's RGB board actually is. Do the math yourself.

2) + 3) In general - for all RGB consoles - you need a breakout cable from FEMALE SCART to 6x BNC (RGB+Sync+Stereo). Sticking with standard SCART cables for all your systems is the easiest way.

4) Needs an internal RGB mod. Easy and cheap compared to the NES RGB mod though.

5) Any active speaker setup you like.

6) The PCMCIA slot can used to transfer settings, but I don't see the point. You don't need one to save your settings.

7) ArcadeVGA OR Soft15khz OR a scan converter (Emotia, Genius, UVC). For ArcadeVGA or Soft15khz you also need a sync combiner from RGBHV to RGBs.

I would add GroovyMame + CRTemu driver to point 7.

I feel that at this stage using the CRT emu driver with a ATI HD4000 series graphics card the best option. You can pick and choose between soft 15kHz and CRT Emu that way. They are pretty cheap on ebay second hand at the moment.
