Newbie monitor help!

Post by crynox »

Hi,

Well firstly this is my first post, so here goes...

Whilst looking for a Sony PVM/BVM I came across a cheaper alternative, (I hope). I picked up a 21 inch PC CRT monitor, its a Iiyama Vision Master Pro 500, model no MT-9221. It has BNC RGB connectors on the rear, plus two for Sync, one labeled, `H/V` & the other `V` I want to connect my Wii, original Xbox and PS2 to it ?

I`m wondering if I can just buy or make a scart lead to go from my switch box to BNC straight into the monitor ?

Ive found that the monitor is 31hz, is this compatible ? I`m guessing the H/V connection is composite sync, will it just work, or do I have to split the vertical/horzontal ?

Or have I bought the wrong type of monitor ?

Any help would be appreciated ! :D

You need a 15khz monitor not a 31khz one, so yeah, you goofed.

Probably nothing at all - maybe a 'signal out of range' or similar message. Maybe a scrolling mess.

It's relatively rare to have such connections, you could always give it go (no idea about the specific monitor) in case it still syncs with a 15 khz signals ... but I suspect the connections are probably only for 31khz signals most probably for use with some non standard broadcast, projector-passthough, or workstation based kit that would have been more likely to have bnc rather than vga.

Hmmm it might be that or sync'd to 31khz when I connected my Dreamcast via the VGA adaptor ? As that's where I got the reference from, it stated it in the osd menu as the current condition. I think I will give it a go, just need to modify one of my RGB scart leads..

BNC was fairly common on high resolution PC monitors (~1600x1200 and up) because of higher chances of signal degradation with VGA cables at these high resolutions. Even consumer monitors had it, usually as a secondary input to the standard VGA one.

With the PS2 you can try getting a component cable and RCA to BNC adapters, then setting RGB. If the monitor supports Sync on Green it will work, though you will have to set 480p blindly (and not that many games support it in the first place).

Has anyone had any experience with one of these, http://www.ambery.com/rgbcgatovgac.html ?

It seems to fit all of my needs, albeit via the VGA connector.

This. Disregard comments about it being nonstandard. I had a similar monitor once myself (I miss it now, sniff).

You probably really want an old XRGB. Then you should be able to get by with a D-sub 15 to BNC adapter.
