Drift Stage thread

Post by cave hermit »

So this appeared on Kickstarter a day or two ago:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/19 ... rift-stage

It's basically a really polished arcade racer with heavy focus on drifting, which is done by letting go of the pedal for a second and then tapping the brakes. There's an early alpha demo out that has a single time trial course with staff/personal best ghosts, and apparently the finished product will have a career mode, standard races, time trials, track editors, and most interestingly (IMO) randomly generated infinite courses using time extend checkpoints. I just tried the demo, and it feels really good: the frame rate is really smooth (although it seems to stutter heavily at certain points at least on my laptop), the controls are quite responsive (I'm actually playing using a madcatz fight stick through joy2key), and the demo course seems pretty well designed as far as I can tell.

I'm seriously considering tossing a few bucks their way despite my usual wariness towards crowdfunding attempts, but regardless Super Systems has already gathered nearly $19,000/30,000, so it looks like it'll be successfully funded.

I don't get hyped about upcoming games too much anymore, but I'm actually a bit excited about this!

Looks nice, hope the drifting mechanics don't suck

That's the most stupid idea I've heard in years.

Looks like it was made by someone who didn't realize that UK Resistance's "Sega Blue Skies" article was a satire piece. I think I'll play OutRun 2: Coast 2 Coast again instead.

Love the art, music and general feel of the game. I know it's alpha but man the drifting is really awkward. Hopefully the spend a lot of time polishing that up.
