I have two consumer crts (one I picked up recently off craigslist) both have interference on the video channels, it looks like diagonal lines moving up or down depending on the set (1 has it worse than the other). I've seen it in another house too so I was wondering if it could be the internal interference with the antenna or something (no longer hooked up of course) leaking onto the video channels.
This isn't a big deal as it's only noticeable on solid backgrounds but if it's something that can be fixed internally I would try to do it. Was wondering if this is an issue with later crts since most that I see now a days are the flatter screen models.
On a side note I was wondering why some identical crt's power up on a white screen while others power up on red, I know someone with the exact same model as my crt and his goes red when heating up upon powering on. I thought maybe it was from being used more but his picture contrast is stronger than my tube that powers white before turning black (I had to go to the service menu to increase the maximum settings for brightness and contrast a little as the default max was getting to be weak). Just curious if this is an indication of use or just a tv bias of sorts.

Sounds like a grounding/sync issue... you may observe similar effects when placing screens next to exact other, non-shield speakers or somtimes even large metal construction beams.
Won't have anything to do with an antena.
My first suspect however would be the cables/signal your using... tried swapping these?
Contrast/color can vary particularly as sets age, service menu if available may provide more nuanced tweak options. Unfortunately, if the effect is particularly pronounced/variable it may be a sign of a degrading set...
What model of tv exactly? And where are you located.
Never heard of tv powering on as red... a slight white flash to black would be a more common description in my description.

Actually that noise appears even when nothing is connected to it. In those cases I can't see the noise though since the screen is black, except when powering on since the screen goes white then black, and during that transition you can clearly see the diagonal lines of noise moving up/down.
The screen powering red I would have thought that that meant the red is taking over and green or blue gun is or has been dying out but the color on his tv is brilliant in all three colors as far as I can tell. I noticed my BVM also powers on red and it has around 48k and colors are also fantastic. Still though I guess it must be wear huh. I'm pretty sure his tv was used a lot where as the one I picked up came from a house that (at least claims) hardly ever used this set.
Both I'm discussing are Sony FS100's.

Sounds like perhaps the sets need servicing. At a stretch you might try isolation transformers, if it's a dirty line issue, but I rather doubt that would help.
I haven't seen a FS120 power on as red, I don't think, but my PVMs do something kinda reddish. Might be standard for the type, or it could be a problem - if you're lucky perhaps somebody has mentioned / taken a video of a FS120 starting up to compare with.
