Home improvement projects (photo heavy)

Post by JBC »

Anyone here do any DIY remodeling in their home? I've gotten pretty good at it over the last couple years. My objective is to make my bedroom feel like a relaxing indoor garden while still giving it my own creative touch.

I've knocked out a couple sections of wall to extend the space & installed a floor made entirely of pennies. Eventually I plan to grow a special type of Ivy all over the walls which purifies the air & doesn't require direct sunlight or attract bugs (Hedera helix).

I've installed track lighting & wall sconces, then assembled tons of modular furniture for storing my clothes & stuff.

I spent tonight covering up my sh*tty Celotex ceiling using joint compound & a tool I rigged up for stamping texture into it. Another coat & one shouldn't be able to tell it was ever paneled.

It's a WIP, so be gentle!

It's a cool idea. I feel I should have more plants around in my place.

They are good for the spirit! I've been having a lot of trouble locating decent planter boxes to grow them from but have done plenty of research into how to care for them & prevent damage. You have to keep your soil at a particular pH & dust them with a powder detergent to prevent mites (only once though, the effect is supposedly permanent).

I suppose I'll just have to break down & buy some lumber to build them myself. It's more work but at least I can get their dimensions exact.

I'm considering black lattice sections cut at 45 degree angles to hang from the walls & ceiling, though given that my walls are sandstone textured I think the vines would stick regardless. I hope I can get full coverage because the stripes are kinda meh.

We've slowly been fixing up our place. New windows were the biggest expense. Do what makes you happy, you're the one that has to live in the place after all.
