If you need help identifying/remembering a shoot-em-up you played in the past, ask about it here!
Personally, I need help identifying a arcade shmup I played on a Canadian cruise ship a few years ago, but my memories regarding it are extremely vague and generalized so it's sorta impossible to actually identify it: I remember that it was reminiscent of later 19XX games theme-wise, and that's about it.

19XX theme is probably the most generic of all shmup themes. I assume you have looked into all of the Strikers 1945 games by Psikyo (1945, 1945 II, 1999), and their spiritual predecessors Aero Fighters (Video System).
There are more obscure war-themed games, like Fighter/Attacker (F/A) by Namco, or Ghost Pilot (SNK), and a lot, lot more unremarkable games that made their way onto Rob's entertaining 91-95 hidden gem search (even if all the image links are dead

To people who would like game identification help, there are some core details you should tell us at the start:
* Whether the game's a horizontal or vertical shooter. Isometric and arena are also possibilities. If it's some other kind, you're on the wrong forum.
* What system you played it on. If the answer's PC, also say if it's a native PC game or if you played it via emulator.
* The year or range of years you played it, and if you think it was new at the time.
* The game's theme. Some common ones are World War II, modern air combat, space/sci-fi, cute/parody, fantasy, and abstract.
There are hundreds of shooting games, so this information really helps narrow a search down.

since the requests are as vague as physically possible (unfortunately), i thought i'd stop by to call out rob's terrible countdown threads, since they were mentioned.
they aren't even remotely entertaining or funny, and they're all kinds of actual wrong (his own opinions are wildly inconsistent, let's start and end at that). they are at least semi-serious because that's how every single one of rob's posts are, and many of the replies attempting to agree with the countdown are clearly serious. like even ed oscuro's post about viewpoint may as well be serious because that's how every single of his posts are.
i feel the need to call this out because of why it was mentioned here to begin with: it's a terrible bandwagon, and terrible bandwagons need to be called out. even if rob meant it entirely as a joke, it will always be taken as serious advice. it's the same kind of low-level brainwashing that pretty much every single video game reviewer with fans causes.
i would have dumped all those threads into the "laughably bad reviews" thread if i had been there when that thread mattered
edit: skyline saying planet joker (no not earth joker) is better than ghost pilots, time to exit world 4ever

Unfortunately this thread is almost certainly doomed because most 'help me remember' threads are posted by forum noobs with post counts under four, who will never be able to find this thread in a search once it falls off the top page.

clearly it needs to be stickied, this subforum could use another sticky
i think the bigger "shmup questions" topic would be better for this though, just rewrite the topic title to include shmup identifying
