XBOX 360 SCART cable - crap!

Post by opt2not »

Hey all, I bought a cheap (from china) SCART cable for my XBOX 360 to use with my PVM 2030. Hooked it up to my PVM and got a very green saturated screen, so I figured perhaps they screwed up the pinout.

I proceeded to open the SCART housing and found this:

Hot glued...

After tediously, and gently removing the glue, I checked out how they wired this up.

It looks like they daisy-chained the R, G, & B GND (5, 9, 13) pins together, connecting 'em to the RGB-Switch GND (18) and Audio GND?? (4) and Data GND??? (14)

I've never seen this kind of wiring in a SCART connector before. Most of the SCART cables I own deal with RGB, then use Comp Sync along with the Audio connections.

What is the purpose of this?
Should I eliminate this ground chain and just wire up the RGB+Comp Sync and Audio? I appreciate the advice. :)

Yeah, don't think grounds work that way, they're probably just saving on the number of strands of wire in the cable I think.

I've been known to daisy chain grounds like that in an effort to get rid of sound buzzing and the like.

Many consoles do not have enough gnd pins from their AV port to cover all the necessary gnd connections on the SCART side.

I've opened many console SCART cables, and I've never seen separate grounds used. As long as the ground wire has the gauge to handle any needed current flow (after all, they will all be tied together at each end internally in the devices) I can only imagine it mattering with individual shielded color lines, like a high end SCART to BNC cable.

An Official Xbox 360 SCART cable costs around £5. Why on earth buy from China?

grounds should not be a problem because (like antron already said), they are all tied to the same ground on the console side anyway. you will probably need to verify the pinout is correct on both sides. here is the console side pinout:

maybe its an issue with the mode select?
