Raising awareness about things everyone is aware of.

Post by Rob »

Movember - I wasn't sure what this was about, so I looked it up... And have you ever heard about prostate cancer and testicular cancer? Scary stuff.

One of this foundation's aims is apparently to "spark conversations around the often ignored issue of men’s health".

I've seen the nasty 'staches, but have you heard anyone mention dairy in any of these (non-existent?) conversations?

In nine separate studies, the strongest and most consistent dietary factor linked with prostate cancer was high consumption of milk or dairy products.
Wh-oops!

Back to watching the Clippers game and all of those dazzling, awareness awaring 'staches. :O

Buffy got kind of stupid in later seasons, but I didn't realize she was trying to give me cancer.

Movember... would be pronounced like Moe-vember. Did these guys misspell "moo" or is the cow's name Moe?

I really should switch to soy milk. Tastes good to me, but family doesn't like it, say it tastes like squashed watered beans juice.

But soy milk gives you puffy man-nipples! What doesn't fuck you anymore? What research doesn't show that X item gives you Y shitty anymore? Goddamn, if Reagan was back in office things would be different...

Fuck it, going back to ramen noodles and coffee only.

Almond milk contains carrageenan, which may lead to gastrointenstinal inflammation! Can't win!

The USDA recommended daily amount of calcium intake is an overdose that increases heart disease and leprechaun infections

Be easy with that milk. It's as dangerous as heroin.

I am trying to think of something but I am not sure I can step up to the gold standard of Rob's post.

So here's something I found in just a minute.

Did you know that if you smoke you get a FREE CRT! (Presumably stuck in your esophagus, but oh well)
Mr. Pringle: The true face of terror?
Foolish women: Still getting sprayed by wine in candid camera gags?
Shit: Maybe it's not cool, but you've given us a new tie-dye idea
Lumps of vaguely ugly soaplike stuff: Still too expensive
Murals in general and public pools: The worst things about modern life

I'm reaching even writing about those. They're all terrible.

I've taken to squeezing the teats of celery stalks every morning. It tastes like Christmas trees and gasoline, but it has calcium and is rumored to tussle with cancer.

For creamy milk-like substances, almond is pretty good.

Just keep fapping to keep that prostate healthy!

Seriously, though. Doesn't pretty much everything cause cancer somewhere?

Isn't cancer pretty much a 'bad' mutation of cells? Our bodies mutate through our whole life and therefore at some point everybody will get cancer.

From what I've read, it sounds like most cases of prostate cancer develop slowly and aren't actually much of a health threat. A lot of people who get diagnosed end up dying from something totally unrelated. All this awareness stuff has lead to more screenings and diagnoses, but it means fuck all when doctors can't tell which tumors are goin to kill you and which aren't. You get diagnosed and your choices seemingly amount to get treated and spend the rest of your life pissing your pants and being unable to fuck or roll the dice and maybe, possibly, die in a year. Whether or not you get treated doesn't seem to make a difference in survival rates, but it sure as fuck will make you miserable.

Edit: Heres a link for reference http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/magazi ... edicament/

That's right. Every time cells divide, a little information is lost. This is why we age; even though cells are constantly dying and reviving in replications, they lose the original data which allowed them to function to the best of their genetic code. Skin which used to be soft becomes wrinkled. Eyesight changes. Muscles lose efficiency.

Eventually, a crucial piece of information can be lost, either by cell division or by an environmental stimulus, like an x-ray or even just a wayward cosmic ray. At that point, the cell goes haywire and becomes cancerous.

For real? It just has a slight aroma but tastes like every milk ever. Can't say that about goat milk bought from anywhere though, I get mine fresh from goats from a nearby village.

Anyway, no matter the taste, it is healthier than cow milk, soy milk or whatnot.

btw, the prostate cancer stuff is yeah bad. acid king is right, but what I've read suggests that cancerous cells (i.e., they'd be diagnosed as the bad crab) appear and disappear from that part of the body all the time. getting surgery done on that part of the body is a great way to be miserable for a long time and possibly for the rest of your now-shortened life. It's especially galling when there's a biopsy done on some insignificant speck of tissue and you get "oh look, CAAAANCERRRR" Additionally people still don't know how widely the body (and it changes per individual) is able to stave off disease.

@ Captain: Hmm, sugar is responsible for lots of bad stuff, but probably not cancer. A short summary of some stuff here: http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-cond ... t-20044714

@ed I'm pretty sure I've read from some "trustworthy" source that sugar does, in fact, cause cancer in addition to other bad things.

The hard truth, or part of the sugar craze? You decide.

Sugar sure does cause bad things, but it's also sweet to us in part because (at least in its usual format) it's never bad, so...

It does remind me of the whole China Study II fiasco. Dude has many good points but the science isn't behind what he's saying about meat.
