So, there's this game that I vaguely remember playing a lot on a Windows 95 or 98 computer when I was a little kid (I'm 20 now). I only remember a few images and sounds, really. It's a horizontal-moving game where you control a spaceship. The whole thing was very dark. In addition to the blackness of space, it had lots of purples and dark blues in the color scheme. I can't remember if you ever got into levels that were on a planet or in a mothership or anything, but it was definitely space the majority of the time.
It had creepy music throughout. When you started the game, there would be a picture of a menacing face on the right side of the screen that I think was supposed to be some kind of antagonist. At various points throughout the game, you would hear a deep, sinister voice. Kind of like the Mortal Kombat voice. Of course, I don't remember what he said.
As far as the actual gameplay goes; whenever you started a new level, you'd see stars and space for a few seconds before your ship came into the frame, and a few seconds later, the enemies would start appearing. The shortcut on the desktop was a little purple spaceship...and I think the title printed underneath was "DUNE," but I don't imagine that the game had anything to do with Frank Herbert's Dune universe...unless it did.

...when I asked on reddit, someone "guaranteed" that one among you "knows exactly the game you're talking about and has 1cc and counter-stopped it like 200 times..." I was both amused and intrigued.
Let me know if any of this information tells you anything!
Thanks!
