Tecmo Classic Arcade collection
pologies, if this has been covered at all (apparently it has). i'll ask anyway though, as my questions have more to do with the quality of the comp and not general thoughts on the announcement.
now apparently according to gamespot the collection shipped out today for $30 with a total of eleven games
Tecmo Bowl
Rygar
Solomon's Key
Bomb Jack
Tecmo Cup
Pleiads
Senjyo
Star Force
Strato Fighter
Swimmer
Pinball Action
i'm particularly interested in the emulation of Star Force, Strato Fighter, Rygar, and Tecmo Bowl. star force and strato fighter both look pleasantly interesting (gamespot has a little footage of both in videos 2 and 3).

I have no sig whatsoever.
I haven't played it yet, though my pre-order is in. The only thing I know for sure is that Tecmo Bowl is the arcade release minus the NFL license. And, if you remember the game in the arcades, it was more of an "experience" type thing than actually a good game.
But, I mainly wanted this for Bomb Jack. And, from what I have read, Bomb Jack is a spot on port.

I would have bought this for the original Ninja Gaiden alone, and I would imagine Tecmo could bank on the success of the series's recent Xbox revival to sell more copies of this if they had included it. Why it's not on there I can't imagine, unless it's an unlockable...which isn't too likely.
Of course, the original Ninja Gaiden isn't really related to either the NES trilogy or to the Xbox one(s).

I apologize for the double post.
Though it's completely different from the deservingly famous NES trilogy, the arcade version is a worthy title, and I had really hoped it could make it onto this arcade compilation. Thus far there is no console port of the arcade version, though the Lynx port made a fantastic effort, IMO.
The Ninja Gaiden trilogy on the Xbox NG is the NES trilogy. The first NG for NES features a few similarities to the arcade original (and mostly in the first level), but it's really a completely different game in terms of story, visuals, presentation, and most importantly in gameplay. The two NES sequels are direct continuations of the NES version, and have nothing do do with the original arcade NG outside of their title.captain ahar wrote:well it was supposed developed by Team Ninja, and they had put the Ninja gaidens on Ninja Gaiden already. maybe it was a revenues thing?

zzzz...zzz...
Oh man, that list is so boring I fell asleep reading it. Bombjack is nice and Solomon's Key would get played (a little) as well. Where the crap is Gemini Wing, Silk Worm and Saboten Bombers? Take those three, put 'em on a disc with Bombjack and you've just wasted the one that is actually being released.

^ I am with you on that one. I loved the NES rev of Solomons Key but I am pretty sure its the inferior (in my opinion anyway) arcade version thats included on this disc. None of the other games on the collection are enough to make me take the plunge. On a related note I recently got to try out Saboten Bombers at Undamneds place awhile back. Pretty neat stuff, I love the sprite of the main cactus character you play as.
This is the first comp I've seen that sucks balls. Tecmo fucking Cup?
Didn't know Saboten Bombers was Tecmo, if so how the fuck's that not on there?
It's money-grabbing, no-effort pieces of shit like this that make me glad I use Mame. I'll keep playing bombjack and they can keep their shitty comp. If they'd bothered to put in the same amount of effort as Taito (even on the cut-down single volume Euro version), I'd have bought.[/quote]

There's the SNES collection with all three of the NES Ninja Gaidens in one cartridge, but it's not cheap or easy to find.captain ahar wrote:pfg 9000, i'm an idiot i wasn't even making the connection that all the games on the comp are arcade ports. i just wish there was some way i could the NES NG's without buying individual carts or having to buy the xbox game and actually play it... *shudders*

I wouldn't recommend the SNES compilation. The sprites and backgrounds are all re-done, but the collision detection leaves a bit to be desired, and the music (my favorite aspect of the NES trilogy) lacks the soul of the original compositions. I believe this is the general opinion towards the SNES comp, though I DO tend to be a little fanboyish towards the NES NG's.
Now a Ninja Gaiden series compilation, with faithful ports of all the sidescrolling games...that would be fantastic. I would like to play the Master System and Game Gear games outside of emulation, and I really owe it to the series to play through the Gameboy installment as well.

I agree about the SNES version. Ahar, you should just buy the NES carts. I and II are easy to find and cheap, and are the best games in the series anyway. III is a bit rarer, but still can be had for about $20 or so. It's well worth it to play these games on the actual hardware, anyway.
I too would like to see the SMS (and PCE) versions of NG on a compilation some time, although I have to say the SMS version really isn't that great gameplay-wise.

Also the recent Namco 50th Anniversary collection, despite having games that were ported before is still a nice set of games (IMO) at a better price than this one. If you still play NES, definatly get Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2. They are easy to find and dirt cheap. You'll most likely pay less for all three NES games combined than for the SNES Ninja Gaiden collection.Bloodreign wrote:Other than Solomon's Key, Rygar, and Bomb Jack, there's nothing as nice on it like the Capcom or Taito compilation packs. And this is 30 bucks? And only 11 games?
