Advice on a CRT TV stand.

Post by evil_ash_xero »

I was able to get an unopened Sony Trinitron Wega, believe it or not. It's a 36 inch, and weighs like 230 pounds. It's a monster.

I had someone come up today, and we had to use a dolly to move it around. Lovely TV, with a great picture.

I want to get a stand for it, but I don't know what to get. I kind of doubt they make TV stands with massive weight in mind, since everything is so light now.
I have a nice entertainment center/TV stand, that holds my 27 inch. But this thing just seems so much weightier.

Any suggestions? Maybe I should just get a big ass piece of furniture (like a dresser or something), that's made of super thick wood, and sit it on top of that?

I believe I have never seen a stand, arm/wall mount for anything bigger than 20".
Beyond that size only dedicated furniture was available.

Now in the professional / broadcast world they must have had access to different stuff...

Sony released matching Sony-branded stands for their 27, 32 and 36 inch Wegas in the mid 2000s. I purchased a 32 stand on kijiji (similar to craigslist, but in Canada), got it for peanuts ($20). I believe they were quite popular, so you're bound to come across one if you are patient.

I would just make one myself with 2x4s for framing but then again I know how to work with it...

I went ahead and got this. Not exactly what I wanted, as I will have to put the game systems in a shelf beside it, but at least it can hold it.

I just looked around craigslist for one when i got my massive 37 inch NEC.
I went to a couple of places and tested them all out myself and bought the best one out of the lot.

I have a 32" wega. I have a regular old tv stand i bought off of craigslist, but i had to beef it up with 2x4s and a sheet of plywood directly underneath the tv, after the stand started bending.
