SLaVE - Dreamcast

Post by Stevens »

I ran a search and didn't see that anyone had posted this.

Yet another new Dreamcast game is inbound. I love my dead system!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOqn72rv9GI

Looks like a fun mix of Doom, Robotron, Tron, and the like. They're aiming for an April release.

It is limited to 484 copies. The $30.84 special one is sold out as it was limited to 84 units. The $20.84 is not yet sold out and is capped at 400 units. I was able to grab one for $20.

Order here - http://www.goatstore.com/Products/Sega/Dreamcast/
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Looks awful, and there's no reason for it to be released on Dreamcast other than to cynically exploit nostalgia and the collector's market to make a quick buck. It might have been impressive if it was a 1994 Amiga release.

This looks really great to me, but why the hell is it on the Dreamcast? Seriously, this kind of game is perfect for Steam, GOG, Desura,
etc. Why in the world would the devs limit themselves to a limited run on an (officially) dead console? Makes no sense from any kind of logical perspective. Really the same can be said of all the dreamcast/neo geo homebrewers.

Nostalgia is a thing, but nostalgia has never been particularly logical.

"First-person arcade shooting action" - I don't think he knows what most arcade gun games consist of.
"classic retro aesthetic" - Chaining near-synonyms together does not a good sentence make.
"platforming and shooting" - Welcome to a FPS.
"stylised lighting effects" - Apparently lighting isn't part of the "classic retro aesthetic". Helluva selling point there.
"a wicked sense of humor" - Do puns count as "a wicked sense of humor".
"intense soundtrack" - Like that super duper awesome Fruityloops track they used in the promo.
"unforgettable boss encounters" - Followed by more puns.

In the thread about low-poly 3d games possibly becoming the new "thing" I mentioned highly-stylised, almost neon, 3d action games. Exhibit A right here.

Doubtful. I forsee an influx of highly stylized, almost neon, minimalistic 3d games.

Lotto numbers please.

Or are you the dev?:)

Is there only one weapon type in this? Part of the fun of FPS's is collecting newer, more powerful weapons.

FPS? I like the design, but I can't play FPSs without getting dizzy in 3 mins.

It looks okay, I guess. Nothing I'd get a boner over, and the taglines don't do much to hype it. There's more interesting/imaginative FPSes out there if you were looking for something classic (Ken's Labyrinth for DOS).

I don't get why releasing to Dreamcast is so interesting. I played Neo XYX - it sucked. The scrolling just felt "off" and the pacing in the levels was really fucked (stage 1 itself throws enemies very aggressively at you, but then the boss has a safespot you can sit in throughout the entire fight, wtf). It feels like they're so focused on hyping up how cool releasing for an older console is that they haven't actually bothered to polish up the games.
