I opened my GameGear some time back with the intention of replacing the caps but haven't gotten around to ordering them yet so I went ahead and closed it up after a screen cleaning. It used to work fine (save for the almost non-existent sound and perhaps slightly washed-out screen), but now it shuts off immediately after powering on. If I flick it on-off-on rapidly, it seems to stay on. I am running it on batteries.
I've been looking online and see that this is a common problem. Replacing capacitors seems to be an often suggested solution, but I do not think I have seen anyone conclusively say that cap replacement actually resolved their issue.
So, does anyone have an idea what else could cause this so I can order the possibly needed parts along with the caps?
Thanks!
GameGear shuts off immediately after power on?

Regardless if it solves the issue or not, you need to replace the caps.
