Two new shmups on USA region 360 XBLIG & GoD site...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Was browsing on the USA region XBox site today (9-07-2014) and lo behold, not one but two new shmups are available for purchase via digital D/L:

On the Games On Demand section, "Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition" is a 977.01 mb file -- is a $19.99 USD D/L at best.

Second and lastly, on the Xbox Live Indie Games section, an indie shmup title by the name of "Nandeyanen!? - The 1st Sutra" is a yoko based one and is a mere $2.99 USD insta-buy.

On a related note, from the same developer whom brought us the XBLIG indie shmup title, Leave Home, has an 8th indie game D/L called Delta (is now available on the USA region XBLIG site) which is a mere 3.95 mb file but is a trippy one, indeed. By combining the slick visual aestethics of Tron, Rez & 2001: A Space Oddessey, Delta when hooked up to a killer 5.1 or 7.1 home theater surround sound amp setup via Toslink digital optical cable or HDMI method setups, you can listen to some slick 120, 144 and 180 beats per minute BGM soundtracks that accompany the trippy & very polished visuals. It has support for both digital D-pad & left analog stick control-wise + single slow button functionality as well -- so it'd be equally at home on a candy cab setup running an 360 via VGA cable and an Ultracade uVC setup. Is priced at an affordable $2.99 USD. It seems that the overall framerate runs faster than 60fps making for some fast gameplay.

I can finally play Under Defeat (I don't have a PS3)! Actually, is it any good? I'd like to know before I drop $20 on a point card.

Now if only Rising Star would release the DLC for Daifukkatsu Black Label locally so I don't have to jump through hoops to get it...

Yes, it's quite good. The 360 port of Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition has support for widescreen HDTV setups (a step up from the original Dreamcast GD-Rom release of the same name). By using a good 360-based arcade joystick setup like the Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE or even the exclusive Japanese Amazon.com based HRAP VX SE Kai (with it's Vewlix aestethics and further button placement between the joystick + auto-fire upgrade), both are fully endowed with Seimitsu parts from the ground up for that unmistakable gameplay, control-wise.

What an inappropriate timing. Under Defeat HD on PSN cost me $2.69 a few days ago.

It's not very difficult to achieve...

From the date on Xbox.com, it looks like it came out 2 weeks ago, but yeah, it's a weird timing considering the huge drop in price on PSN.

It's weird that Rising Star Games took almost 2 extra years localizing the 360 version. I don't know what kept them from releasing it earlier. I mean, the game was done, the loc was done on PS3. Seems like it was more likely a business issue.

Microsoft's policies about GoD games were stricter back then. It used to be that they didn't allow a game onto the service if it hadn't been released physically in that region, and RSG didn't want to pay the expense for a retail release on both systems. I think MS loosened this requirement after the Xbox One launch.

Microsoft Japan had previously gotten the US branch to make an exception for Deathsmiles IIX, though.
