Would be much better and I would totally get it if it came with digital copies of every game it talks about.

Ha ha, that would be a licensing nightmare, and the book would cost a lot more.Lord Satori wrote:Would be much better and I would totally get it if it came with digital copies of every game it talks about.

ordered it on my local Amazon page. They don't have a shipping date yet, but I hope it won't take forever to import the copies they need.

this will be a great read, waiting for availability to order.

Looks nice. I'd love a digital version if one ever gets produced.

Re: New Book with LOTS of Shmups!
It's interesting to learn that only one Vectrex game was ever released as a bona-fide arcade game from the likes of Cinematronics in 1983...it'd be none other than "Cosmic Chasm" with upgraded color vector graphics and an all-new arcade control panel with a dedicated rotary knob spinner setup from the get-go. How cool was that? I do recall seeing/playing this ultra-rare arcade coin-op game at two past California Extreme shows but it was available just for one day only, at best. It was in immaculate & super-mint condition, considering it's age. It wasn't for sale at any price...that much I could tell upon looking at the CAX paper sheet for a bit more info on it. Owner chose to remain secret/undisclosed.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Walter Day in person at both the 2003 & 2004 California Extreme shows when he was to referee for some classic arcade game competitions (including Donkey Kong). I wanted to have him witness me try to attempt a World Record run on an Atari Games Klax cabinet but none were to be found on the game room floor at both shows. He told me that if I could get ahold of a Klax mame rom and he'd watch me play on an HanaHo cab running Mame but it, sadly, didn't happen at the 2003 CAX show. At the 2004 CAX show, a dedicated Klax cabinet was a no-show considering that no one brought one in. At the 2004 CAX show, both Walter Day & Billy Mitchell showed up for a possible Donkey Kong match that never materialize between a competing player, Steve Wiebe (as he didn't show up).
And lo behold, both Walter Day & Billy Mitchell appear again together at the 2004 Classic Gaming Expo for another Donkey Kong match. Did see Mitchell play some DK by himself. Quite tall in stature.
--------------------------------
Arcade trivia Factoid:
If you watch the "West World" arcade scene (filmed on the Sunset Blvd. strip back in 1984) in the 1985 released movie, The Boys Next Door, a cameo appearance of the ultra-rare arcade LaserDisc game of Cube Quest is shown right next to the old-school mechanical gun shooting range cab that actor Maxwell Caulfield plays on. Only 6 of 'em prototype CQ cabs were ever made in their entirety. I do recall seeing such a Cube Quest cab appear for just one day at a past CAX show. Super smooth LD playback, indeed -- reminded me of Squaresoft's PSX-based iS: internal section shooter easily.
