Power outlet solutions for numerous devices...

Post by Windfish »

I bought a 12-outlet surge protector, thinking 12 outlets would be more than enough. Nope! I am going to be adding two more devices in the coming weeks to my setup, so I will need at least two more outlets. I am wondering: can I put an outlet splitter on one of the surge protector's outlets without any negative consequences? Any recommendations?

I am sure many of you guys have, easily, 10+ devices. How do you handle them?

Generally fine ... unless you want all on at once.

Main issue is around overloading/heat; obviously pretty unlikely with general usage but it could possibly result in melting/damage which could lead to sparks/fires. General advice always follows that there should be some ventilation room - don't be squashing tight bending adapters + wires which can lead to tears/breakages with age/heat.

Personally I've always favored individual switches on each plug - not constantly having stuff powered that I'm not even using - if nothing else it's a peace of mind thing.

I've heard that various surge protectors shouldn't be chained - might just be a specification/liability thing.

No one's going to advise you to daisy chain if you can avoid it, but pretty sure we all do it somewhere within our homes :)
