I'll see if I can get names but basically about all of their arcade/console development has left Cave with the vast majority at M2. M2 is looking to do retro style but modern game releases, sort of like Treasure but they want to actually be relevant.

Yeah but haven't Ikeda, Asada, Yagawa, Inoue, Namiki and other Cave superstars already been hired elsewhere or moved to completely unrelated projects ?
Guess the other lesser known ex-Cave programmers are very good too, but M2 could very well use them only to do 'modern' ports/emulation of non-Cave stuff.
Neither did Qute but people seem to like Ginga Force and Eschatos. More than Milestone games, anyhow.
I don't see how that is a reference to quality. If anything I'm hopeful that outside the aegis of Cave's trademark shmup-style, these programmers can actually do something new and exciting for a change.

Let's not forget though that even if the superstars aren't on board, these are people who have worked with and learned from them extensively. I don't think Ikeda was much of a big name back when he worked at Toaplan, either.

How long before Cave, Treasure, M2, Gulti, G.Rev, Irem, Ancient, Moss, and Qute all coalesce into a single creative entity that gains a monopoly over the market for professionally made Japanese STGs and arcade action games?

I would be ok this as long as it were region-free/localized.
At least the devs went somewhere that will (hopefully) use their talents properly. Hopefully with their influence M2 will pump out some STG games that will keep the flame burning.
Region free releases really doesn't seem to be that much of an issue for devs (although what do I know) for releases on the 360, but I'm guessing that publishers are done localizing these games. Mainstream audiences don't understand how arcade games are meant to be played and assume the fact they can just credit-feed means that the game is way too short and has no replay value (despite the fact STG's are pretty much nothing BUT replay value). Either that or it's too hard for them.

Except there like mad bullets all over the screen, like crazy Japanese Galaga or something. And you can like change colors and it's got this rad soundtrack. This one dorky guy I knew in college had it. I heard some crazy Japanese dudes without girlfriends can actually beat that shit without even shooting bro! Only bad thing about it is you beat it in like 15 minutes since you can just continue when you die. Not really worth the money man, but it was fun and shit.

Absolute domination of a worldwide player base estimated to number in the dozens.
On topic I'm interested to see if anything of interest to the likes of us comes to pass from this, but I suppose these guys could just as easily vanish into the background at the new company, so I guess we'll just hafta wait and see.

Yeh man, they could become as big as NG:DEV and call themselves businessi seppuku or B.S. in short !
What will they eat though ...
Iuchis UBUSANA is just the beginning. Sounds very much like M2 is entering a new phase which is the release of several original titles. The fact that they never released an arcade game is irrelevant. Those are clearly downloadable titles. My guess is that the PS4 will play a central role in this though having them on multiple platforms is very likely.
They made the recent Koihime Enbu arcade new release, as well as porting some titles to Nesica (like Skullgirls, eventually) so they've definitely got some involvement in the AC side of things.

at least from their CAVE port you can tell that they know what CAVE fans like/want (or they got lucky). still gonna take this "news" with a grain of salt.
Also I do have a little hope for this whole cave M2 development; M2 did do a nice port of Mushihimesama Futari to the 360, so they must have had some interest in STGs.
I'm sure M2 will do pretty good, they've already got Namiki and a bunch of other high-tier people on their staff roll. Curious what comes out of this, but I'm afraid it'll just be more Ikeda wanking that I don't care about.
