Impulse Controller and iOS/Android controllers?

I've been trying to do some research on this but it seems most people have reviewed the 2013 version... anyone had hands-on experience with the 2014? Plus I have Amazon Student so I can get Free Two-day Shipping if I buy from there, but then I can't tell if I'm getting the newest model or not. It would appear not...

It's hard to know if the delay would be too much to play emulated shmups on my phone so I'm banking on someone here having tried it. Are there better options that could still go with me in my pocket along with my phone easily?

Can't comment on the "Impulse controller". Seems to small to be comfortable.

I can really recommend the FC30 and NES30 controllers though. Bluetooth as well, but they can also be used wired through USB.
