What is this arcade game??

Post by Jedah Doma »

This has haunted me for quite some time now. I think about this game every oce an awhile, but anytime I do researech, I know just a description of the game, and search engines are no use. So, I thought I would tap into the collective minds of the Neo Geo folks to see if you could help me. Alright, so here goes.

First of all, the game was a huge enclosed sit down game. You would go into a booth of sorts. You went into the machine (booth) and would sit on a bench. It was rendered in real time 3-D. You have four controllers for four players. It was a rails shooter, but in first person (you didn't see your ship). It was in space and you shot tons of enemies on screen at once and big space ships. All four players shared the same life bar that was located at the top of the screen. The screen was huge stretching from one end of the machine to the other (it looked like 2 or 3 screens put together). As far as how big the machine was, it was big enough to sit four people down side by side comfortably with a ceiling of about 4 feet I'm guessing.

Well, that's about all I know about this game. If anyone has any clues, it would be much appreciated as it's one of the last arcade mysteries I've have.

The description sounds a lot like Starblade but that one was single player only. I do seem to recall there was a sequel though...

Edit: How about Attack of the Zolgear?

Starblade or Galaxian 3D or just 3.

I would say Galaxian 3D or whatever.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Yep, Galaxian 3.

They still have one in the Namco Wonderpark over here.

I also saw a Galaxian 3 in Barcelona Spain (in an Arcade off the Ramblus) while on vacation in July. They also had a Ridge Racer with a real Mazda Miata car as the controller!! :D
