I'm in a conundrum. Don't know much about current LCD/LED panels, but need to buy one for the family before the World Cup kicks off.
Hisense are China's premier TV manufacturer, they make beautiful panels (using LG parts, or so I hear) and the 50" OLED is very convincing on display.
But to my horror, these TV's appear to be completely locked to 200hz or whatever the max refresh rate is. The staff member had no idea why I would want to watch a movie at 60hz, even when I had him demonstrate a Hollywood film and told him it looked like it had been filmed on my Galaxy SIII.
It is absolutely unacceptable for me to watch movies above 60hz, but for sport and documentaries I think the 100hz+ feature has benefits.
So can anyone recommend a new, or newish TV with a switchable refresh rate function. In all honesty it won't be used too heavily for gaming, but lower lag would be preferred if possible. And although the chances of anyone having experience with Chinese brands is low, if anyone does have any info about Hisense Vidaa TV's etc, I'm all ears.
Thanks for the help.

Don't most tv's have a cinema mode where you can switch it off?
I've had to hunt for this option on a few tv's. It's not always called the same thing, but you can normally do it. Frame blending, cinema mode, progressive scan etc.

If I could find a single staff member in the store who knows how to do that, I'd be really happy. As yet, no luck!dan76 wrote:Don't most tv's have a cinema mode where you can switch it off?

Ask to try yourself? See if you can find the option in the menus? Expecting retail staff to know technical stuff is a bit much, especially when you don't know it yourself (if you said to them that the problem was refresh rate; it's not, it's motion interpolation).

Any decent modern TV will have a 24p mode to play Blu-ray movies at 24FPS.

The language barrier is an incredible problem, and the menus are in Chinese.ZellSF wrote:Ask to try yourself? See if you can find the option in the menus? It's baffling. The Vidaa is an amazing thing, but no one can show me anything except 200hz.Rupert H wrote:Any decent modern TV will have a 24p mode to play Blu-ray movies at 24FPS.

My little HiSense had an option to change the menu language, English was in there. Like ZellSF said, you're not looking for a refresh rate option but rather an option for disabling the motion interpolation.Skykid wrote:The language barrier is an incredible problem, and the menus are in Chinese.ZellSF wrote:Ask to try yourself? Did your Hisense have the disable motion interpolation option though? Or was it not one of these ridiculously high cranked sets in the first place?nZero wrote:My little HiSense had an option to change the menu language, English was in there. If you have the model number, you could look up the manual online and see if it's possible to disable the feature. Unless there's a language barrier in that case as well.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
Re: Are 100hz+ TV's switchable? Plus general recommendations
The latter, I'm afraid. I'd be genuinely surprised if the high-cranked sets didn't have a way to disable most of the processing though.Skykid wrote:Did your Hisense have the disable motion interpolation option though? Or was it not one of these ridiculously high cranked sets in the first place?
