I haven't really had an opportunity to play shmups -- or games of any kind -- since early this year. At the time, I was unemployed but I was very busy with a lot of other things that I'd neglected while I had a job. Then in April, I started looking for work, which is in itself always a full time job. In May I had interviews, in June I moved some 2200 miles to a new job; I've been living out of a suitcase going from one hotel to another while looking for a permanent place to live. Finally, I have a place to call my own; I bought a new computer (AMD64 3700+), and installed both SUSE 9.3 and Ubuntu 5.04 on it, and I've been struggling to get either of them set up properly. Finally, just a little while ago, I managed to get XMAME working on Ubuntu. I don't have it piped through my 5.1 system yet -- for some reason I've only got 2.1 -- but I can hear it, I've got a gamepad, and I can happily go about committing xenocide once again.
