It's not bad, could do with more explaining of its quirks, what you need to do is try to herd enemies away to the left or right so you can quickly move away from them and have a clear shot to launch yourself as high as possible and try and stick to the middle since you can hit the far edges of the stage and lose a lot of altitude/combo hits.
The problem is lots of random meaningless deaths from the random enemy spawning and movement, since normally it only takes one click to right your ship from crashing after hitting something and only multiple collisions or hitting the ground can do you in, this makes you invulnerable as long as the game doesn't decide to spawn many enemies along the bottom where you'll insta-crash or in clumps, falling from a high jump later into the game is also nasty since you are falling very quickly and your laser destroys enemies basically at random, leaving it to luck again whether you'll make it alive or trigger a multiple collision.
Sort of. There are three "ranks"; if you stay alive long enough you'll rank up, which raises your maximum speed (which lets you jump higher) and spawns tougher enemies.
Rank 2 adds Gunners, which (unsurprisingly) shoot at you, and rank 3 adds Skiffs, which fire a giant area-denial laser to make dodging harder. You're WAY faster by that point so the jumps pretty much clear the screen of enemies though. Rank 3 is pretty crazy.
Man... the smoke effects are so pretty in this, and I love the chrome enemies. Found a let's play type video where the mechanics are explained some. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlJtGzmsXUs
