Lenkeng LKV6000

Post by tfa1337 »

Hello all,
Wondering if anyone has tried the Lenkeng LKV6000 http://www.lenkeng.hk/product/Game_Conv ... eng85.html ?

From the description, it sounds like it does more than the LKV5000 / LKV354 since it has a "scaler". I see the 6000 on ebay for about $65 currently, not sure if it is worth the money over the LKV5000 / LKV354 ( http://www.lenkeng.hk/product/Game_Conv ... eng84.html ) ( http://www.lenkeng.hk/YPbPrzhuanHDMIzhu ... eng49.html )

Bottom line: It is difficult to produce an inexpensive device that de-interlaces and scales well and fast - which is why many people invest in a used, high-end (and often out-of-production) video processor.

To understand some of the issues have a look at this topic: Lag on the XRGB-Mini.

The inexpensive Wii-to-HDMI choice is the Neoya.com Wii2HDMI exactly because it DOES NOT de-interlace or scale.
In consequences, if we want to ensure that the external upscaler has better performance than the internal [display] upscaler, the eventual price of the product will be extremely expensive (around hundreds at least!). If not, the effects of the external upscalers is either not obvious or the performance is less satisfactory than the internal [display] upscalers.
The downside of the Neoya.com Wii2HDMI is that it will only work with displays that are capable of processing 480p (and 480i) through their HDMI input.

So one issue the Lenkeng LKV6000 seems to have is that its output is limited to 720p/1080p - which makes sense from a consumer electronics perspective but it also implies that the de-interlacer/scaler circuitry cannot be bypassed in case "the effect/tradeoff of the scaler/deinterlacer" is not desired.

There is a general "Lenkeng series of processors" section at Fudoh's Deinterlacing, Scaling, Processing: Classic videogame systems on LCD and Plasma screens page.
