Today is a good day. Not only did we get Danmaku Unlimited 2 on Steam we also have another Shmup released on the same day.
Luftrausers(also purchasable from humblebundle store here!) is an "Endless" Defender like Shmup (with Asteroids' rotating control style) that has just been put out on Steam. Has a weird but interesting WW2 German aesthetic to it. The game also has leaderboard support and an Achievement style system which allows the player to unlock new weapon and plane body and engine parts.
It's pretty fun from what I have played of it so far. Have any of you guys checked this game out yet?
EDIT: Added a Screenshot!

This. Seriously sick of seeing that shit in every thread. I go to this section for games news and discussions, not to read about how Steam raped your sister. Go make a thread in Off Topic if you need to whine about it.

I've been looking forward to this one since I got to play it at PAX last year. I think it's more of a borderliner than a shmup, but it's still a nice little "pick up and play for five minutes" type game. For the most part the bullets seem basically undodgeable, the trick seems to be to stay out of trouble long enough to repair.
Sadly might not be able to vita this one until next paycheck, but love the flash game.
Looks amazing and it feels great tool not sure why, but I remember asteroids being far more frustrating. Luftrausers gives you a little more time to work with and the physics are well...insane in a good way. I found all the crazy positions you have to be in to down the battleships etc. to be easy and satisfying to pull off. Over all a strangely satisfying acrobatic gravity bender. I wish it was 1.99 instead of 10 though
What combos is everyone using? I've been playing mostly with this one:
Weapon: Cannon or laser
Body: Melee (no collision damage)
Engine: Underwater
Best score so far is around 16,000. In many ways, it doesn't feel like there's any one combo that feels like there isn't some major limitation you're dealing with. A lot of that seems to be by design though.

I got just over 17k with Lazer/Meele/Hi-Speed. Found the best way to earn big points is to build up the combo buy killing small-ish planes and ships while taking the odd pot-shot at the large battleships for a big point payoff. Might switch out the Lazer weapon for the cannon though as I feel it's a better weapon overall for taking out ships while my Meele body works wonders for keeping my combo alive versus planes.
Got the nuke, my high score is like 8k I think current challenges are kill 80 enemies after death, kill a blimp, and something else. Number 2890 in scoreboards.
Psn: liminal18
If anyone wants to get the friend scoreboards going.
I fucking love this game to death. My only issue is how I have to remap my controls each time I turn on the game. But it's been pretty fun. Only gotten an hour in so I don't have much.
I demand a Gradius mod. I want Vic Viper with ripple laser and the ace jets to be Big Cores. :B
I have no idea how, but I managed to get a good run going for a bit and pulled off a 27,035, which seems to be good enough for #107 on the Steam leaderboards right now (although I have no idea how I'm supposed to beat that myself...) I'm using the Nightmare (Laser/Melee/Water) and finding that seems to be the one that works best for me. The trick seems to be to let a decent group of fighters start following you, then take a bunch out at once, and hunt the small ships while you're doing that. The laser really isn't equipped to take out the big ships (the cannon seems like the only weapon that really does much there unless you're really patient.) Most of the points seem to come from taking out aces on big combos.
All in all, this seems like it would be a fun game to put into an arcade. I need to stop playing now or I might not sleep at all tonight.
Woo Spoopy's score suggests some trickery, in the vita version the highest score is about 60k. Btw lasers seem to be the best, you can take down warships with them + plus bombs. I am hunting submarines now, somewhat unsuccessfully. High score 13k in the top 1000 on psn.
Yes, the top score looks like a pretty obvious hack. On one hand, I'm kind of surprised there's only one score over 100,000, but given the fact that I can't break 10,000 most of the time it amazes me someone could get that high in the first place. This might be the best example of a "game that can keep me playing even though I suck at it since Pacifism mode in Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2.
So I am currently #1 on vita psn with a score of 61k lucked into it doing the submarine challenges, Max combo and took down 2 subs with laser, bomb, and anti-grav body. Kinda weird being number one...
I just bought this game. So far I've only scored around 9000. I'm having a hard time coming to grips with the controls. It feels like I'm trying to wrestle with an out of control bull. The game takes me for a ride. I can't come to grips with the boost and the gravity. I end up doing stupid things like boosting strait into enemy fire or down into the water. I'm all for new control schemes, but damn this will take me a bit to get used to.
Edit: Just scored almost 17000. I found out that boosting constantly is a bad idea. I'm hovering above the ships taking out aircraft. I'm now trying to figure out how to take the ships out. This game is keeping me on the edge of my seat.

Things got a bit easier once I realized "Time Pilot + boosting + gravity".

So you unlocked the "Engine: Hover"? With that you can easily build up some momentum parallel to sea level and then take pot shots (while rotating without boosting) at the battle ships passing over them - you may want "Body: Armor" while practicing. Just don't stay too long on a straight line - Aces will make mincemeat out of you.
No comments on "SFMT" mode yet (Super Crate Box also had an "SFMT" mode)?
I played this on PC and it's great.
Are the controllers any different on Vita? I mean, does the game take any advantage of analog controller for better aiming or something?

You actually don't regen health if you're boosting.
And yeah lay off the boost and just let it glide.
The controls aren't that responsive so you have to kinda predict where the battleships will fire next and then set a trajectory to minimize fire while maximizing your own fire. 3 passes over a battleship and it should be down.
