Just tape over pins of a 360 AV cable to make it audio only?

Instead of getting a separate audio adapter for the 360 because the sodding thing can't do Toslink audio through a multi-AV cable and HDMI at the same time, I wondered if it'd be feasible to tape/cover over/remove certain pins in the connection of the cable to only let audio through like the adapter. Specifically, I'm using a "AV port to AV port" cable that plugs into a certain switcher, the Joytech Control Center 540C, which has a certain channel for 360 that lets its video outputs serve as the video for the 360.

Xbox 360 will output HDMI if HDMI cable is connected... No matter what additional cables are connected.

So you don't need to touch the non-audio pins of any cable. I think you got something confused, but your post lacks a lot of details.

Well basically, I can connect the 360 to the HDTV through HDMI just fine, but when you also simultaneously put in the AV chord for analog video and audio out the second port the console resets and goes to that video connection, as I'm always having to put out video through this cable and the Xbox can't put out two video signals simultaneously, so I'm seeing if this cable can only output audio to avert that problem.

I seriously doubt you'd be able to be precise enough with tape to cover the pins ... and the odds of it stay in place when you plugged the cable in are pretty slim.

Practically speaking, you've got 2 options:

1. Hack apart your cable and remove the video pins (this is possible but messy, I did it with a VGA adapter)
2. Get the audio-only adapter

Funny, the taping thing was exactly what I was doing (successfully, by the way) earlier. I just thought it didn't work (under admittedly weird "testing" circumstances). I also hope the process doesn't cause any electrical problems.

My advice is to get the audio adapter. I don't recall it being expensive, I think I got a knock-off from eBay for $5-6

That's what I had suggested earlier as well. If you've got a regular AV cable and don't mind sacrificing it, it will work.

In my case, because I was using a VGA cable, I had to remove the video pins from the connector, otherwise it wouldn't route the video through HDMI.

get a tv box, and plug the HDMI in, and just do not plug in the Audio part, your local radio or electronics small business should have a kind of audio, adapter as somebody said, which can be super cheap.

On a game system, all game systems, wherever the media is outputted it is still being outputted even if their is nothing plugged inside, this is why on real televisions, you might see radio interference, because a type of signal is being outputted. That is my idea, on the subject.

Eh, because of optical audio.
Taping over GREEN pin #4 (I think) stops it from switching over the video signal, so I wonder if that means you can use optical audio with the HDMI video simultaneously.

Who said anything about trial and error? pinout, no idea if it's correct though (and don't forget the multimeter.)

Can I get the pinout to the Joytech AV Centre's 360 interconnect cable if I did want to remove the video pins, if only for convenience?

Shouldn't be any different than any other AV cable:



This image is from the wire side of the cable connector. So if you're looking at the connector side, just reverse it.

Is there a reason why you don't want to buy the audio adapter? They're like $5.
