The term "Dakka" used for bullets in shmups

...and no. Despite being pretty down with the lingo, I'd never heard that term in reference to shmups before that video.

Definitely an influence from TV Tropes ("More Dakka") which might or might not be appropriate: does the video refer to the remarkably specific concept of increasing fire rate as a problem-solving strategy (see linked article) or does it use "dakka" as a whimsical (and out of place) term to describe fast-fire guns in general? (I'm at work, I can't listen to the video myself).

I'm so mad right now. We should head over to Dakkadakka forums and shit up their hobby with our terminology. Make it so a single guardsman can kill a Riptide if it shoots the core. Flyers will be able to dodge bullets and drop smart bombs that kill everything on the board. Make most units into lolis etc.

Hey, it's this video again!

On a side note, the guy(s?) writing these pages on TVTropes is(are) definitely Warhammer fan(s) based on thier Dakka entry which, surprise, surprise depicts and quotes 40K orks, so TVTropes is kind of misapplying the term to suit their fandom, and it's not the way they should be doing it. It's like a manufactured trope that the author wanted to perpetuate, but I don't want to get to far removed here.

Basically the main thing I'm getting at is, in the decades I've been gaming and the years I've focused on shmups in general, I've never heard "dakka" used to describe anything but more orkish fire power in Warhammer 40K (especially and specifically via the tabletop game which is as far removed from a Bullet Hell shmup as you can get.) Long story short, it can't really be a trope, since I can only really see hardcore 40K fans using this, and it's not really applicable to normal gaming conventions.

I've seen quite a few quite a few instances of people aping these manufactured tropes online, like "The Dragon" suddenly being used to describe Darth Vader-like characters in mimicry of the TVTropes page.

Both the concept and execution of TVTropes are moronic, though I guess it's a mostly harmless stupidity.
