Ex-COD Devs kickstarting a shmup (To The Death)

Post by Kaiser »

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sca ... -the-death

I don't know about you guys but for me, it smells like many bad things, namely another Sine Mora, another PRETENTIOUS fake indie game, why would you need 400k dollars to create a shmup? Infact the game is bound to be bad so I'm reserving a right to laugh at anyone who supports it, we should go support our games in dev forums if possible instead that are WORTH money and time (although that can also vary).

The only justification I can see for this is cost for hiring a decent artist + an entire crew + publishing costs.

PS. We'll see how it turns out, but i'm being skeptical right away.

Looks more like it's aiming for 2D MOBA rather than shmup

Yeah, they say "shoot'em-up" in there, but it's clear it's just another point on their checklist of marketing crap.

The first thing I thought of watching the video was Sol Divide as well. Although when they talk about ability upgrades to counter the other player, I'm definitely sensing the MOBA influence there. I don't see much shooting or bullet dodging going on anyway.

You guys are always so negative right out the gate.

Looks ok, little too floaty for me but whatever. Neat idea at least.

Jesus H Christ, what a bunch of negative nellies.

No wonder dev's don't want to develop STG's anymore.... everyone thinks it's gonna suck before a single line of code's written.

It's kinda sad how they hype up 60fps like it's an amazing achievement. Like, wow, a 2d game on PC doesn't have a ridiculously low cap on the framerate. How incredible.

Wow I almost didn't even bother watching the pitch video, but the game play clips were actually kinda cool. Although all it demonstrated was that you can fly and enemies follow you and you have a melee ability. That reminds me are any of the Japanese 1vs1 shmups available with multiplayer in the u.s.? I remember playing a doujin game that was player vs player and you created each other's bullet hell. Regardless, I was a little more impressed with what I saw in the kick starter video than I was expecting although the production values of their pre-alpha could use a little work.

First impressions make or break a game, ESPECIALLY in the commercial market, there's no exception, it doesn't spare anyone, deal with it. As for devs not wanting to develop STGs... for me it's simple as this, either you do it decently or you don't do it at all. Because the entire game market doesn't need more subpar/average titles with good ideas that are badly executed and dissapointed people.

But as I said, we'll see how it rolls out.

Looks incredibly bad to me. It can't be that difficult to make a proper STG, this is definitely not the way to go.

And $400k is ridiculous. But then again, people are often ridiculous aswell, so I wouldn't be too surprised if this gets backed.

Just about, yeah. It looks kinda cool, but this early look seems to be trending more towards "beat-em-up" rather than "shoot-em-up." I highly doubt there's going to be anything in there that'll make you guys happy. Certainly won't be a proper shmup.

I am sure with 1/2 of that amount or lesser, a good five programmers and artist, a rom set of dodonpachi, some one should be able to recreate dodonpachi campaign label for the x360 with leaderboards from one of the sof-wtn videos. but thats an ideal world.

But yeah, you need $500k for leaderboards. >.>

This is as about as blatant, EA-tier AAA game dev shilling as it gets. These guys don't deserve our money, much more trying to con Kickstarter bucks out of people to squeeze into the saturated MOBA scene as it is.

The only thing they have going is trying to attract people with the concept art, but they already have a tried and tired look.

$1,400,000 for online multiplayer, seriously. I don't get some of these kickstarter projects. I like the idea of kickstarter to help indie devs and like to be able to get help with their project. But some of the goals some have are just insane. Seems kinda stupid to me sometimes. But then again maybe I'm just an idiot :) .

Chronoblast Patch - will release for $250,000

For a mere $1,150,000 we will get CRAFTING

Stretch goals are dumb. Make the game you want to make and budget for it.

I don't wanna bash the game, but the money grab is pretty ludicrous.
