VP30 Audio Lag (occasional problem)

Post by Ji-L87 »

Sometimes the audio from my VP30 gets delayed all out of whack after using it for some time, and the delay is pretty huge, like, seconds between on-screen happenings and audio. "Fixing it" is easily done by quickly switching to another video input and then back - after which everything is fine again.
It doesn't happen immediately but sometimes, after 30 minutes or so. Maybe more.

My current setup looks like this:
Audio through RCA -> VP30 -> Audio out through toslink --> Reciever/amplifier.
I haven't tested if the problem occurs over HDMI but my receiver is old and my TV often doesn't like the HDMI audio output from the VP30, giving an error message.

Have anyone else experienced this? :o

Why are you running audio through the VP30 at all? I'd say run as much of your audio as you can directly to the receiver (though I might be "spoiled" from having a Harmony remote that makes the switching easy). Or does it not have enough analog inputs and you need the extra that the VP30 offers?

The only reason was that when setting things up, I wanted to make sure the audio was matched up properly with the video.
At the time, I was planning on obtaining an elgato or similar HDMI capture device so I could just hook that up and record some gameplay, complete with audio.

But aside from that, routing the audio directly makes more sense, yes.
However, I'm still curious why this occurs.

Have you tried the VP30 with another receiver?

Yes, used to have another receiver in place of the current one. Was some time ago but I want to remember that still occured.
Both are/were older receivers however and toslink was used that time as well.

Don't have access to a newer one to test with. Can a receiver create a "bug" like this?

Yes, it's not impossible that it could be a problem or a configurable setting that is incorrectly set, such as a lip-sync feature in the receiver. However since you say it happened with another receiver, I'd say there's likely an issue with the VP30. Make sure your firmware is recent and try resetting your settings to default, I guess (or perhaps the VP30 has a lip sync setting? I used to have a VP50 before my Edge but don't remember the menu options in it all that well).

what's the delay in your VP30 set to ? When you set it to zero, the VP30 delays the audio along with the video. You migth wanna try to change that setting. It probably belongs in the 30ms area if you run your TV on gamemode settings. Try a different value and see if the problem persists. If it does no matter what setting you choose it might be a defectice audio buffer ram on the iScan. Not unheard of, especially on the Edge.

The option can be found here:
Menu->Input Adjust->AV Lipsync (last option in the menu)

Yeah, had the lipsync set to 0. I'll set it to 30, let it run for a while and see what happens. Thanks people!

I think this happened to me once after leaving a game paused for a long time.
But moving the lipsync slider didn't help... had to turn everything off and on again.
