PC Shmups for home arcade cabinet

Post by LaC »

I'm looking for some PC shmups to add to my mame cabinet. Basically games that have the ability to completely remap the keys so you can navigate menus with the keyboard.
I use Maximus Arcade, and use the "batch file" menu to launch the games.
So far I only found one decent one that works well and that is Raiden III.
Anyone have a list of other games that would work well in an arcade cab setup?

Do you have a horizontal or vertical cabinet setup?

All three of the Shikigami STGs have PC ports.

Good point, it's horizontal.
I assume if they are PC ports though they will work well either way.

Raiden III had a PC release that is identical to the arcade release (since it was also on embedded windows/typex system). Supports both horizontal and vertical displays.

Yeah I know. That's what I said in my original message. :)
It is a good example. Was hoping to find more like that.

Just about any doujin shmup (or game for that matter) should work since 99% of them follow the "z select, x back" format (for focus or additional buttons it varies, Touhou is shift for focus, while Stellavanity has C for blade, V for bomb, and F for focus). Not all have configurable keyboard controls, so you'll probably have to use something like joy2key to get the buttons mapped.

I don't have a list of specifics though, I knew someone who was building a MAME cabinet but I think he was going more for fighters than shmups.

This game looks pretty good. Too bad I can't get the music working. Both on my XP arcade machine and my Gaming PC.
