I feel it appropriate to note that the Daily Fai...er, Mail was, IIRC, among those who propagated this China-related hoax, and should probably be viewed with some skepticism here as well. That said, assuming that this one is accurate...
'She started shouting at him accusing him of being a skinflint and of spoiling Christmas, it was a really heated argument.'

Mind you, I'd be lying if I claimed to be some sort of minimalist when it comes to possessions, but the whole "if you don't throw yourself totally headlong into a mindless consumerist orgy (and/or crushing debt) then you must hate everything the season stands for" line particularly irks me.

Although all media is propagandist bullshit occasionally diluted with fact, the Daily Mail has a particular reputation for being an utter rag.

Amusing as it is for a man to kill himself rather than have to shop for shoes with his stubborn partner, it's also another way to shoehorn some amusing content into their sensationalist lineup of daily nonsense. Much in the vein of picking on the poverty stricken and uneducated in Henan -

"rapid growth has transformed Henan from one of the poorest provinces to one that matches other central provinces, though still relatively impoverished on a national scale"

- to run stories about domestic pets pretending to be zoo animals, because, by the zoo's own admission, they "couldn't afford the real thing."

Belly laughter for the white man. Next week: The Ethiopian shopkeeper caught trying to pass off freeze-dried Earth as coffee grounds, because he couldn't afford the real thing. That will be a good laugh over breakfast with an ipad.

I dont see why Atheists celebrate it..

"Oh, but its was winter solstice" ok cool, so you gave each other gifts for that ?

Actualy , im a hardcore Christian, and i dont even see why anyone celebrates it..
they supremely miss the point !!!!!!

The point of Christianity is to detach from this world/system of things... not have a party and think all is well,

it isnt ...God will make sure it isnt

I'm just happy to get a few days off work and without deadlines, call it Christmas, call it whatever - the result is the same. I'll be sleeping in late, sitting on my arse watching telly and eating and drinking with my friends and family. Can't bloody wait.

"Sorry to tell you" ?? and who are you ?, qualifications please (if you want me to take your word over the vast majority of the world)

And religion is a very broad term , everybody is religious about something, and everything is a borderline religious cult. Just go against the hive mentality of most groups to find this out.

I think it should be pretty obvious that religion is for mind control. Do some research and inform yourself.

Past that, Christmas was stolen by the Christians from the pagans during the religion's formative years in order to make it more appealing to them. Keeping customs, and all that.

In the words of a friend of mine (who is a mormon of all fucking things, seriously why):
Still, Christmas is a time for family and for friends and cherished memories. That's the point I was trying to get across. Its not about presents, gifts, or anything like that. And if you don't want it to be about Christ, it doesn't have to be. Just help make the holidays lovable and memorable! ;)

I like the ideal of an organized holiday as an opportunity to take a break from school/work/training to visit friends and family.

However, the fact that a significant and, I would assume, growing number of people have to work the holiday anyway makes it somewhat moot. And I don't enjoy organized giftgiving regardless.

"Obvious", yeah i agree, but only because all we have experienced is a lie, the version of the last 300 years or so.

..But there is a truth.

Most of the Atheistic commentators have been attacking the (300 year old) lie, So i wouldn't even entertain them..they have devoted their lives to deconstructing a false representation of the truth. Because they, like the Church are getting rich from the debate. I think they may have the purer motives actually.

The difference between the truth and the lie...
Well , the heretical doctrine of Arminiasm .. That we all know TOO well, in every Church.

"say a little pray , and , if you mean it ...." so it rests on your understanding and choice, your special powers of perception. Basically every Sunday is like an xmen convention (haha)

or the truth, which depends on God, and WHATEVER he wants to do, as in the concept of it all he is the creator of this experiment, matrix, whatever you see life as.

I dont blame anyone for not believing, in fact i dont think its a choice, your on of the "sleeper cells" or your not.

Christmas makes me sick, and some of the arguments me and my wife have about presents!!

Anyway Me sticking up for Christianity always ends in pointless arguments.
No offense meant

Let's just be grateful that it gives us a day off work. Seriously, any celebration that keeps me away from whiny customers who feel aggravated because their sense of entitlement has been interfered with, is to be heartily welcomed.

Religion is to philosophy what the Ether was to physics before Einstein created the theory of relativity.

The supposition of a moral absolute against which each and every action a person takes can be measured.

How is it an argument?, its a VERY relevant, intellectual subject .

Do not apply unless you are evolved enough, i guess

(can a human evolve beyond only believing what they can see/feel/understand?)

We love all these films such as the matrix, ect, this is the real deal.. the subliminal influence of everything !
Our very reality, sense of time is based on it.

Evolution is not a mental state, nor is it an active process that a single individual can take part in.

The reason evolutionary biology has dethroned astronomy as the menace du-jour to the world's religious community is because it not only contradicts the various religious texts, it describes a mechanism by which systems of great complexity (or some say messiness) can be created from systems of lesser complexity without the need for intelligent intervention. God needn't exist after all.

Dethroned, ? Atheists are the vast minority of the world ... well if the third world are proper human beings, which natural selection would debate.

I can only really talk From a Christian point of view, but... its actually impossible for the wrong people to believe, hence all the texts about not letting the pharisees catch onto the parables, even though they heard them over and over ... (and only the select people being told the true meaning)

Thats the complete context.
I guess it makes it all the more bitter, but to the race of people that believe, very sweet!!
I didnt make the rules btw

Railslave, dude. Try to calm down a little, you're going to end up trolled. If you find joy in the season, great. Celebrate it, it's your right. Spend time with friends and family as long as you're not harming anyone. The rest of the year is miserable enough already.

Just like anyone who wants to make themselves miserable and bitter during/because/despite the season have that right. Their life, their health, their problem.

Please no lock yet, mods. The thread is still salvageable.

Im calm :P and i hate Christmas/xmas/happy holidays, with a passion..

it was my whole point, the entire thing is wrong, from ANY perspective .

In its complete context, people are basically celebrating and egging on there complete destruction at the hands of......tbc

but anyway, too deep..

No offense meant... i just have very strong views, coming from a different angle

My first instinct is to respond that you don't understand the theory of evolution at all, but I want to give you the benefit of the doubt. Please explain why you think natural selection would debate whether the inhabitants of the third world are proper human beings.
