How come no one talks about Akkanvader?

Post by tehkao »

I only discovered this shmup recently after browsing a Darius-related site....looks like a pretty cool Parodius style silly shmup...how come I never see anyone talk about it here?

Well, I loved what I tried out the game via emu, but I think the main reason nobody talks about it becuase it doesn't have many home ports (it may have only one, but I'm not 100% sure on this). None of the ports made it to US either. I know that it did get a US arcade release since I read about it in a magazine, but the release seems to have been limited.

I don't think it has any home port.

It's in that Japan only Space Invaders Pocket collection for PSP. In fact, there was talk about it and Akkinvader in another topic in this forum.

it's in the new taito collection as well.

i happen to love akkanvader. it's a fantastic game. it has a cute darius parody (seen in above screenshot) and a pretty great final boss. also, several of the characters shoot rolls of toilet paper.

I have it and think it's great. The levels are all fun to play and you get a very quality feeling from it, kinda like I get from Star Parodier, where you know a company truely has a handle on a franchise, enough to make a cutesy version of their game that is super fun for pretty much anybody can enjoy it :D

yeah the psp one was the first home version afaik. and someone here mentioned it has a horrible bug on the last boss (you cant avoid bullets or something?).

sorta glad no one knew about it a few weeks ago. i got the f3 cart off undamned for $75, with artwork too. possibly couldve gotten it for cheaper if i waited a little (he lowered prices on his other stuff like a day or two later), but i havent seen it up for grabs anywhere else, so i went for it immediately. too bad i dont have an f3 mobo yet :P

anyone know if theres a way to switch the cart to english? or about jp/us f3 cart/mobo compatibility?

Yeah I think this bug was for Majestic 12? The final boss would do a certain attack and you are nowhere near it... Yet you take damage. >_<

How do you play this in the PSP screen? I hope its "Tate or nothing" option, yet we know that playing like that on a PSP is anything but confortable.

There's an optional tate mode on the PSP version. Just press the L and R buttons together to switch back and forth.

Damn shame that is. :(

Also, Return of the Invaders has slightly incorrect scoring- all the invaders are worth 100 instead of 100/200/300, except of course for the challenging stages. Whoever Taito had contracted SIP to has dropped the ball on a few fronts.

Majestic 12 on PSP has a new bonus stage before the final block with the "?". Unfortunately, it's not near as good as the Cattle Mutilation. The new final boss is too tough.
Kinect? KIN NOT.
