Amusement Show Shmup Rumor Speculation thread!!

Post by ThirdStrike »

We have already had a few shmups confirmed to be shown at the amusement show next month.

Here is a run down of what is confirmed for the coming year.

Confirmed list:

Under Defeat-G. Rev
Espgaluda 2-Cave
Ibara 2-Cave
Shikigami No shiro 3-Alfa System

Here is my rumor list:

Project RS3/Ikaruga 2/Radiant Silvergun 3-Treasure
Strikers 1945 part 4-X-nauts/Psikyo
Gunbird 3-X-Nauts/Psikyo
Dragon Blaze 2-X-Nauts/Psikyo
Psyvariar 3-Success
Border Down 2-G. Rev
Dodonpachi 4-Cave

Just think maybe 1 or 2 of these games might be announced next month. In fact I offer a 100 Percent chance one of these sequels will be announced at the next AM show.

Whats the logic behind each of your rumor ones (I know that you are just hypothosising but humor me)...

E.g.

Treasure are known to have Type X dev kit so must be about to do something.

Psikyo are back in the game (of a fashion) so are bound to do an arcade release.

Not that I actually think either will happen! I think the Skonec bet is a better bet. Grev already have a title in the works and announced so I doubt they will announce a second.

I don't think we will see Ibara 2 at the show either.

I never said that Ibara 2 is being shown only that it is coming in the year.

My guess is since Psikyo released sengoku cannon and signed as A Type X developer that they probally will release a Sequel to one of the more popular shmups. I read not long ago Treasure was in the planning stages of Project RS3. G.rev has just finished Under Defeat and I am sure they are fond of Hori Style Shmups themselves having worked on the Darius games it is only in their blood to release a Sequel to Border Down. Skonec is a given for Psyvariar 3 .

I think that just about covers it.

Both Cave and Treasure aren't on the partners-list at http://www.typex.taito.jp/partner.html anylonger - so a treasure-typex game is out of the question I guess...

and "rumors" - shouldn't it be more like "speculations" or "I-wish-for"?
- Solar system Defence Force -

It does not have to released on Taito Type X to be released.

Cave usually develops their own hardware and knowing Treasure they probally will Develop Project RS3 on a Sega arcade board.

I do not think it is a wish for list period but a common fact that these games stand a high chance of being released.

Interesting seeing Arika there. With all of their knowledge from porting excellent shmup titles by Cave to the PS2 Arika should really try their hand at a ORIGINAL shmup.

These games prequels are in high demand and deserve a sequel.

While we are on the subject of sequels GUWANGE really needs one.

i don't think X-Nauts/Psikyo has what it takes to release an arcade shooter. maybe some mahjong shit.

ddp4, mh i don't know but this series doesn't seem to fit in cave's new marketing (ie. pantsu), i hope i'm wrong though. plus i wonder if the "peaceful death" didn't refer to the series ending with a legitimate DDP episode after DDP2.

the rest is possible.

Excuse me if this sounds dumb but what is Pantsu?

Cave does seem to be taking the sexual route in selling their newer titles but didn't Dodonpachi DOJ also have sexy android girls piloting those Fighters?

I for one though those girls were hot!!!!

I think Psikyo could release another shmup based on sprite work already done by previous teams draw up a few generic backgrounds in 3d like they did with sengoku cannon and WALA instant shooter just like SNK Playmore does with their games psikyo can go the same route. Of course its rehash city but that doesnt stop the Neo Geo fans does it?

-I think Dodonpachi is over.... just my speculation after reading interviews and seeing their recent movements.
-Ibara 2 --- not this year
-Success is about to announce another game which I'm 99% sure has nothing to do with shooting. They seem to be busy with that.
-X-Nauts will likely not release another arcade shooter for a while. They seemed to have botched Sengoku Cannon from what I've read
-G. Rev is busy with their other game (forgot the name) so you won't see Border Down 2 for a while.

Skonec will probally announce another Psyvariar.

I never said Ibara 2 was coming this year for the second time It is in the COMING Year That could be AUGUST 2006 for all I know I just know that it was in the financial report and with Cave doing 2 shmups a year and taking on the Former Raizing staff I am sure they can release 3 Shmups a year now.

Considering X-Nauts is listed as a partner and they have Jack Shet coming out there is a strong chance a new shmup will be announced on taito type X. Also I think G.Rev can develop more then one game at a time.

However you may be right and Dodonpachi is OVER. Cries

lol what? When does Treasure come out and say they are doing anything until the game is basically done?

edit: Atlus owns the rights to GUWANGE. Also CAVE has had one team, now possibly 2 with the addition of the RAIZING staff?

So why not rename the thread to something a little more intuitive. What does next year have to do w/ the AM show?
and with Cave doing 2 shmups a year and taking on the Former Raizing staff I am sure they can release 3 Shmups a year now.
Which year have they released more than 1 shooter? Or game for that matter.

That's very speculative, but oh, well.
Also I think G.Rev can develop more then one game at a time.
Think again.

1998-Esprade and Dangun Feveron
2005-Ibara and Espgaluda 2

In a press release they said they planned on releasing 2 Shmup games a year from now on.

I remember when G.Rev was working on 3 games at one time. The port of Ikaruga, Border Down on Naomi and some offshoot arcade game I will post the name after I check on it.

ESPGaluda II isn't out, and I'll bet my house it's not out by the end of the year. Ibara was shown at last years AM Show and it didn't come out until June. I'd love to see it, but I'm a realist.

So one year they got out two shooters. And that was 7 years ago. Theyv'e shifted gears a lot since then. Other things other than games, and games other than arcade.
In a press release they said they planned on releasing 2 Shmup games a year from now on.
Link? When Ketsui came out he said they wanted to make 3 games every 2 years, which they really didn't do if you exclude the mobile phone games.
Border Down on Naomi and some offshoot arcade game I will post the name after I check on it.
Senko no Ronde? That was announced some time long after Border Down DC had been released. There's no doubt a little overlap, but you'll not see G.Rev promoting/developing two games at once other than what they're doing now. Working on (finished?) a tweaked version of Senko no Ronde while working on the upcoming shooting game which I forgot the name of. They are a micro company. The new version of Senko put the project in the red (as stated by the CEO at Grev Tsuushin).

i think rs3 was mentioned in an interview a few years ago, like project rs is supposed to be a trilogy or something. but they never said anything about starting work on it or anything else at all afaik. if they go through with it, wouldnt be surprised if they are waiting for segas new boards, whether it be for aurora or lindbergh or what.

and i was thinking id like to see a zero gunner 3 too...then remembered x-nauts would be doing it, so never mind.

Yeah, it seems they did. Throws you off since they skipped 2000. I really would like to see ESPGaluda II come out this year... I just know it won't though. Hell, Mushihime-tama was on locattion test back in the Spring and still isn't out yet.

What? The port of Ikaruga?

Project RS3 is this huge rumor that as far as I'm concerned is NOT true. I have been asking for a source of said information for years now and no one has ever gotten me one. Treasure has and NEVER will say anything about what they are doing, making the "They are starting on RSG3" rumors a load of BS.

The best way to tell is when Gunstar Super Heroes comes out, to see if Hiroshi Iuchi's name is in the credits. If not he may be working on something else... Maegawa said 6 of the original 7 members were working on the title.

yes the trilogy was just some gratuitous speculation started here a few years ago because of the past/future/present themes.

Ketsui is copyrighted 2002, but the Japan Warning screen in my PCB says "Master ver. 1/1/2003" or something of that sort.

Strikers 2006 doesn't sound out of the question, but then again it'd be coming from X-Nauts and not really the true Psikyo. Hopefully Hot Gimmick isn't their only thing (HG5 does exist on Type X).
Kinect? KIN NOT.
