Is the SONY PVM-20M7MDE multi- or tri-sync-monitor?

Post by synonym9 »

Hello guys,

I am just about to restore and to MAME a Sega Hang-On cabinet.
I have list of around 30 motocylce/ATV/Jetski-Games that I could run with the handlebars.

I have a hand on an

SONY PVM-20M7MDE

for a 100bucks and wanted to ask if that is a multi-sync-monitor.
The second question is since it got a digital chassis (as far as I know), would it save image adjustments like V-sync?

Thanks for every answer

M2MD is a good monitor.

100Hz sounds like it is a European model with frame buffering (i.e. lag) for no appreciable improvement (well, the 100Hz mode is intended to reduce flickering by displaying each frame twice).

What's wrong with the Super Hang-On? Surely you won't find many great fans of the "take a classic and turn it into a monster" approach. If the monitor is bad then that may yet be fixable.

Well, the screen got harder burn in's than Thema ashtray off at 68 Chevy

The Hang-On had 20" in it....and get 20" with the PVM....no monstrous plans here :)

With luck you should still be able to find a direct replacement tube.

Agreed that burn-in is nasty; no problems there.

Thanks Oscuro, but thats not what I wanted to know.
Where I live (Austria/Europe) there are no arcademonitors and if, they have burn in´s as well.

If I would not go with the MAME I could swap against a TV-Tube, its a common size.
Since I want to play at least 30 games that maybe have different refreshrates and resolutions the PVM would be a good coice.

Generally the PVM´s are great monitors for vintage gameing.
The effort to restore that cabinet is far above what the average restorer would go through.
Restoring 30 years old handlebar-mechanisms is not as easy as it sounds. Every bearing got miles of bearing play, all the cogging is worn out, the cables are tore or missing, the pots do look like everything but a potentionmeter, the screen bezel is melted from cigarettes (another bezel also with that kind of damage was a 100 dollar, now I can make one good out of two spoilded ones), the brake-lever is missing, I have to find grips that looks stock and so on and so on....

I have 100usd in the bezel and 300usd in NOS-parts like the pot/cogging-unit, handlebar-cover, pull-back springs, opening tools for that weird torx with the center-studs, gauges (two different pieces), gauge bezel, and more....

I will restore that cabinet and try to get 10 of 10, but for sure I will reach a 9 of 10 resto-job.
I pay very close attention to detail and dont balk costs.

So please, support me and dont say I build a monstrousity.

I could do it like other guys, just to put in an old spare tube, mayb put a new sideart on it let the rest like it is and call it restoration.

So I hope to get a little support from the members, if not it is ok as well....
