There is a lot of information about great TVs and monitors for retro gaming (ie/ Beovision, Sony PVM, BVM...) but it seems that the community pay little attention to speakers.
Are there any speakers that can be considered as reference for retro gaming?

In general it's going to be a secondary consideration until you're getting a bit more picky over stereo sound.
Generally I think the most important thing is to match your speakers to your space.
In general I'd recommend people pick up an affordable [possibly second hand] amp and pair of new decent bookshelf speakers - usually this'll fit anyone's budget and space.

I usually follow that unwritten rule, of spending the same amount on audio that you did on video. After all, it is half the experience.
And with amount I mean resources in general: learning, money, time, care... etc

If I did that, I'd need giant halls for the speakers I could buy that kind of money.I usually follow that unwritten rule, of spending the same amount on audio that you did on video
To accompany a PVM or BVM good active monitors are the best choice. Behringer, KRK, ESI, Tannoy or M-Audio....

Vacuum tube stereo amplifier and the best pair of tower speakers that you can afford?
At least that is keeping it retro.

A decent set of studio monitors.
I'm using Yamaha HS-80M, very pleased with the result.

For me the best speakers for retro gaming sound like those in a (good) CRT TV. I use Logitech X-230 speakers on my TV and couldn't be more happy with them for gaming.
Ofc. the normal A/V receiver plus good stereo boxes setup is a valid option too, but imo it's not necessary.
