First female arcade record in 30 years, Legit??

So I was reading this article on kotaku about this woman's splatterhouse record (which according to the comments has already been beaten by someone else) being the first record set by a women in THIRTY YEARS. Not to undermine her record which I'm sure is a great accomplishment, but to me thirty years seems like an awfully long time. I wouldn't be surprised if there were women that had set records since 1984 that the western media is ignorant too.

Just wondering if someone could shed some light on this.


Also, I hope this really was the record and not what galloping ghost arcade thinks the world record is.

@ Heisenberg: The sad thing here is that although we've been trained to say "of course women can do highscores" - and they can - our expectation that they will rise to any old challenge that us guys think is important is interesting.

I'm not going to say that there's a gap between expectations and realities because clearly women can and do perform at this high level. The question isn't one of abilities but motivation, apparently.

classic example of twin galaxies syndrome. you would think they would reach out to arcadia/gamest and update the TG records if they truly want to be the world record archive.

and her score has already been beaten by the guy who originally had the galloping ghost arcade splatterhouse record. so much for that. i'm sure she will show up in the next guiness book though.
