Ideas for shmup aircraft as guest fighters in Ace Combat
So, I got a little idea of sorts that I've been thinking about for a long time. I love the Ace Combat series as much as shmups, and one thing that really stands out is the use of futuristic jet fighters and superweapons alongside real-world aircraft. I came across this article saying that Project Aces is considering ideas for a next-gen Ace Combat.: http://www.videogamer.com/ps3/ace_comba ... ombat.html
What I want to do is perhaps start a movement of sorts, to somehow suggest to Kazutoki Kono and/or Project Aces the idea of including aircraft from shmups as guest fighters in an Ace Combat game (With the proper copyright permissions of course). Because don't you agree with me that shmups tend to have some very awesome futuristic aircraft in them (Ikaruga, Alltynex, Raiden, X-36 from Strikers 1999. etc.) I am thinking of more ideas to suggest on the Official Ace Combat fan site on Facebook. In fact, I have already suggested the Raiden MK-II with the purple laser that would fit right in to an Ace Combat game. Just think about it, piloting the Raiden jet, or perhaps the ship from Alltynex, or Shienryu, or some Dodonpachi fighters, the list goes on and on, admit it wouldn't that be awesome? I'd like to hear what you guys think, and if anyone is willing to help me out. I know that I am just a fan, but it doesn't hurt to suggest your ideas and make them heard. Now tell me, have you heard of any one suggest this before? (Yes I'm aware of the shmup cameos in Airforce Delta Strike)

If I had to pick a couple of shmup ships for a game like that, I think I'd most like to see the Aegis and Judge Spear from Raiden Fighters\Viper Phase 1. Not sure how you could really get the Judge Spear's mechanics into a game like that though...

There's playable Star Wars spacecraft unlockable in Secret Weapons Over Normandy (shooter disguised as flight sim, not unlike Rogue Leader or Crimson Skies).
Problem is, I'm afraid only Star Wars gear is iconic enough to be mascots in a vs kind of game. Even if such a game saw the light of day in Japan, a licence clutter would render it unsellable elsewrere (see Another Century's Episode).
Sonic Wings has a history of mixing real-life aircraft with Rabio Lepus robots (Aero Fighters on SNES).
A MUGEN-like mod of some flight game (IL-2 Sturmovik?) is more likely to meet your expectations. Ever thought of modding one by yourself?
Actually I read in some PC games mag about an old game where aircraft of various epoques battled each other. Back when flight sims were less serious.

There are a lot of ships from Konami's shooters in Airforce Delta Strike (which I haven't played far enough to unlock any of them... it doesn't feel nearly as good as the Ace Combat games).
It's easier for Konami, since they have a large stable they can bring in without licensing. Namco has the Solvalou and Galaga fighter, but I don't think even old-school shooter fans would get excited about the ships from Dangerous Seed.

I have.Pretas wrote:Have you played Sonic Wings Assault?
I would, if I had a PC that could run the game smoothly. I also have seen a mod for Tom Clancy's HAWX, where the Fighting Thunder ME-02 from Raiden III is implemented.Obiwanshinobi wrote:A MUGEN-like mod of some flight game (IL-2 Sturmovik?) is more likely to meet your expectations. As for shmup aircraft I would like to see, here is my list:
1. Raiden MK-II from Raiden 2/DX (also 2P Beta)
2. Type A and C from Dodonpachi
3. Type A and C from Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
4. Both ships from Dodonpachi Daioujou
5. Type B helicopters from Dodonpachi 1 and Saidaioujou, and Ketsui choppers (if choppers make a return)
6. Ixion from Raiden Fighters Jet
7. Silver Sword from Battle Garegga
8. X-36 from Strikers 1999
9. Ship from Alltynex Second
10. Ship from Truxton II
11. Buster Lizard from Battle Bakraid
12. Steel Bat from Battle Bakraid
13. Arwing from Starfox
14. Not a shmup, but Tails' fighter jet the X Tornado from the anime Sonic X
15. Ship from Fire Barrel
16. Solvalou from Xevious
17. Judge Spear from Viper Phase 1
18. Ship from Shienryu
19. Not a shmup, but the FRX-00 Mave from the anime Yukikaze
20. Fighting Thunder ME-02 from Raiden III and IV

I'm surprised that an arcade shmup PCB based on Yukikaze wasn't developed for the Japanese game center/international arcade market scene after the three OVA disc set was finished.

That would have been a great shmup, and there was an Xbox game made, but I've never played it, so i don't know what it's like.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:I'm surprised that an arcade shmup PCB based on Yukikaze wasn't developed for the Japanese game center/international arcade market scene after the three OVA disc set was finished.

I apologize for such a late response, but here is what Project Aces replied back to me:
"thanks for your suggestions. we are including original aircraft in Ace Combat series regularly like the CFA-44 Nosferatu, F-3 shinden II or ADFX Morgan for instance but we are mainly sticking to real aircraft because this is the core of the series."

That would have been awesome, it looks like it could be a futuristic successor to the F-22 Raptor.Aleksei wrote:I wanted to see the yf-222A "alpha blade" from Change air blade
Re: Ideas for shmup aircraft as guest fighters in Ace Combat
If anything, I really like to see the XFA-27 (Ace Combat 2) as well as all the fictional aircraft from Electrosphere make a comeback.

It's available for PC too. The developer is Aquasystem of Super Air Combat (not to be confused with Air/Ace Combat) fame, and from what I saw it's somewhat plays more sim-ish.Emo Fox Jet Pilot wrote:That would have been a great shmup, and there was an Xbox game made, but I've never played it, so i don't know what it's like.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:I'm surprised that an arcade shmup PCB based on Yukikaze wasn't developed for the Japanese game center/international arcade market scene after the three OVA disc set was finished.

Gotta be ripped directly from the game itself, huh. Years ago I tried my own way to rip the model but failed miserably.Emo Fox Jet Pilot wrote: I would, if I had a PC that could run the game smoothly. I recall someone was working on shmup-related *planes* (Antares-XX from Border Down and Type-A from DDP DOJ) for YSFlight ages ago, but I don't know whether it got released or not. Might want to ask the author whether he'll willing to release it or not.

Also there's a rather low-quality Thunder Force V plane pack for YSFlight (the Gauntlet and Vambrace models are fairly decent, but the rest are total crap, even the Rynex), but it's as closest as you got to flying TF V ships in a flight sim (?). Can't find it after YSFlight HQ site got facelifted though.
