Anyone interested in Ninja Warrior/ Sasuke ?

Post by Aleksei »

I've been watching Ninja warrior/Sasuke and the American ninja warrior recently and it has really motivated me to exercise more :x :!: I'm 6 ft and right under 180, I think if I turn that extra fat into muscle, I could compete in the U.S version one day. I really want to, shmup forum community supports me right? Anyway, I found out auditions were held here in Dallas earlier this year and the year before so it looks like with training, I could actually audition one day.

Well, enough of that, what I really want is the measurements of the obstacles, I contacted David Cambell since he has build replicas in his back yard but he never got back to me. I looked around on the internet for gyms that may have obstacles or people who build them, nothing came up.

There are some hilarious parkour people though
http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairp ... r_scen.php

^ they got banned from the university campus I attend, stupid on campus cops :x
don't know if I can get into parkour though.

SO, what are you guys thoughts/comments/ any fans? Feel free to talk about MXC as well, that show makes me crack up.

I exercise a lot... by myself. Will probably never be on TV for it... unless of course I'm the streaker.

Having spent the first 18 years of my life in Dallas (and some extended times between semesters, and even some odd lengthy excursions in my 30s) I can honestly say that city makes me fat.

Heh, American Ninja Warrior has gotten to be quite a hollow shell of itself and the announcers are pretty darn annoying. Plus do they even show the original Japanese version anymore? Still, if you plan on trying to get on, best of luck.

Like the show, actually entertaining to watch compared to other sports. It's kind of like SMBrothers in real life. And I share ya feels about competing.

But. Just to be a debbie downer. Unless the American version scaled down the difficultly (never saw an episode of it), it's physically impossible for you (or me ;_;) to be able to beat stage 3. No matter how strong, no matter how lean.

Americans already got halfway through the final part of stage 3.

I used to watch the Japanese competition on G4 all the time before I moved here to Japan. But here? I've never met anyone who has any idea what the Sasuke competition is. I think it's bigger in the US than it is here...

I yootoob'ed it and the American course is a little easier than the one used in Sasuke I remember from years ago. Maybe a couple more inches slack. A 5'10" guy could have a chance at it. 6' would be inhumanely difficult, but I can't say if it's physically impossible or not. 6+' guy on the Japanese version, not possible.

I used to watch it all the time until my satellite service stopped carrying G4. SHINGO YAMAMOTO FOREVER!

I honestly never cared for the "American Ninja Warrior" spinoff. Yes, let's take a Japanese thing that's actually fairly multicultural and make a version that's exclusively white Americans in order to appeal to xenophobic pricks who like to believe we're the only country that exists, and at the same time have them go thru embarrassingly toned-down versions of the courses. Just like what happened with tons of decent Japanese horror movies--made white and stupid for dumbass Americans.

I will never be on board with Americanization.

It may be toned down but it is difficult nonetheless. Please consider that the American version was to train a team to send to Japan to challenge the course, and Americans did get to the 3rd stage since they started to do so. Recently, the American version had a their final round in Las Vegas and even fewer got to the 3rd stage. Last month a new format was announced that would pit Japanese V Americans in Las Vegas, I believe with this setup we will see if the American courses are "embarrassingly toned-down", at par, or at a higher level than the Japanese versions. Finally, if someone from this forum was on the American version of this show, you would support them right?

I wonder if they knew about Stuart Hall's impending troubles when they replaced him?

Same. Was my absolute favorite thing to watch, even if it made me feel super-weak.
Never saw a single episode of the American version.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

The irony is I remember someone starting a thread on IMDb asking what an American version would be like (this was before it was announced).

Someone said "It'll be a bunch of arrogant white guys trash-talking each other and going on about the prize money, none of the honor or spirit on display in the original."

.... That person turned out to be right.

I honestly don't understand what it is with Americans having to make everything all trashy and mean-spirited.

I've only seen a couple of episodes of the second season of the American version and they didn't come off that way, of course it could be because I fast forwarded through the profiles.

You'd have our support! I like the show both American or Japanese. Definitely inspires me to workout more and try to increase my fitness (which comes and goes like the tide). I started doing more pull-ups a few months ago! But then. deadlines kicked in and ... I've not done them as regularly again.
But you can do it! Make sure you mention shmups when they profile you, or nickname yourself Silver Hawk or somethin! ;)

Although, looking at those blueprints linked above... if they're accurate, then hanging on to a 1cm ledge.. you'll have to be a ninja.

Capitalism~. You have to be "better" than everyone else or you're worthless and deserve to die in a ditch. It's easy to see tons of psychotic mind-warping effects this has on us. Making excuses for "failing" something, having to "win" stupid internet arguments that don't matter, belittling or heaping scorn on the accomplishments of others. It's like the entire country is high school or an office and we're in a 24/7 pr spin/backstab zone.

It helps a lot with leverage if you've got teeny tiny hands. Also if your frame maxes out its strength stat at ~130-140 pounds. Like all the current champions. : /

I doubt that's the full story. Japan is also a capitalism country and they don't have these problems near as bad. Unless they're really good at hiding them.
