subscription-based Dreamcast emulation service coming for PC

Post by Thunder Force »

A new "GameTap" subscription service for PC gamers will allow subscribers to download sanctioned console games using emulators developed for the network, including Dreamcast, Arcade, Playstation and Genesis titles.

The service will launch on October 3rd for $14.95 per month and offer 300 titles, with a library of over 700 more scheduled to be released at intervals... Hmmm...

chances of Border Down being playable?

very interesting.

clever idea actually, surprised it hasnt happened before.
the key point is of course if people are willing to pay $15 a month for it.

presumably its all legal.

Sounds interesting. Migth have to give it a shot, in spite of my ongoing aversion to giving Ted Turner any money...

Well, if it support virtual DC to DC connection and allow us to play DC Virtual On VooT vs against other online players, that would really be somthing... :)

I might have to built a USB twin sticks controller then.

So you are saying these people developed a commercial dreamcast emulator!? I find this hard to believe.

But for 15 a month? I rather bunch all that money up and mod an Xbox or buy the actual systems.

You know, I saw a project on sourceforge a while ago that acted as a server for the DC version of VOOT, sort of like the Schtack server does for PSO. It even worked with the American version, IIRC. I can't remember the name right now, but if you google it you may find something.

Yeah, it's Time Warner's newest field of interest. Not worth the money IMO but I'd like to be surprised.

Pointless. I rather play the actual system for free. Heck, those 15 dollars can buy you the actual system at a pawn shop.

bleem was a one time fee for the emulator.

nothing like this monthly fee.

that said i wonder how long it will take for some of these games to get ripped out.

I'm sure someone will crack it eventually, and create a free emulator for DC. ;)
