Is there any Arcade-Shmups in Germany?

Post by KAG »

As a foreginer I firstly think of Casino, I visited there randomly several times and find nothing, they were just Casinos...

Then I remembered @Plasmo has told me that there is no Aracde-STGs that can be found in Germany.
Is that right?

Of cause with a Xbox we can play Arcade-STGs, but it doesn't help to experience the "feeling", I think.

Take a look at For Amusement Only in Seligenstadt. It's a kind of arcade museum with a lot of classic arcade cabs and pinballs on free play. They have Xevius, Parodius, Galaga, Blazing Star, Asteroids, DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou,Vanguard.

Europe is the worst place to be for Arcades and especially if you're looking for STGs. Britain has 1 Arcade, France something like 2-3. There's one in Sweden and in Germany there's not a single one. Same for most of the other countries in Europe.

On the birght side, a new Arcade in Berlin is going to open in 2013 and it will have a single shmup: Darius Burst.

Bradbury's post only went public after I approved it just this second, so some other posts have appeared in this thread since he posted. I just wanted to highlight it, as it sounds amazing!

No arcades in Germany? It sounds like there's one!

And welcome to the forum Bradbury! Also, I posted your duplicate post. I presumed that was an accident?

Thank you! The double post was a mistake.
The Arcade situation in Germany is not so bad. There is another non profit arcade in Karlsruhe called Retro Games e. V. They have some nice golden age shmups like Space Invaders, Galaxian, Defender, Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Scramble, Astro Blaster beside a lot of other arcade stuff.

I stand corrected at least for the oldschool part.

If you're into anything post-1995 you're still pretty much fucked here.

However, I didn't know about that museum in Seligenstadt. Will definitely check that out in the future!

Unfortunately it's not Darmstadt like in your profile anymore. Than it would be only a short hop to the Seligenstadt arcade.

Sweden has had a few in Gothenburg and Stockholm, with pretty good lineups of modern STGs, but they have been very short-lived. Now in southern Sweden, Malmö, there is newly opened arcade cafe called pixel kafe. Looking at the webpage , it seems to be more focused on 70-80s games, not only shooters, but the list includes zaxxon, space invaders, 1940-series among others.

There's also an arcade with a quite big selection of games at Heron City, Stockholm. No STG's unfortunately. There are also a few nice places for pinball, but that's probably for another forum :)

As it happens I am moving to Brandenburg - any further details on the Arcade in Berlin? There isn't a lot of anything wrong Konstanz.

From their website:

So, it seems like it still under construction. Or can you already play the arcade games at that 'Projektoffice'?

Anyway, I hope they succeed with their ambitious project. I'd be very happy if we had a place like that here.
