Wii Speak - any reason to get one?

Post by Obiwanshinobi »

Those things are cheap, but can you think of any reason whatsoever to get one?
If Monster Hunter Tri still worked online, I'd be tempted to try it out as a substitute for headset (expecting failure). If any freeware PC drivers existed, I could examine its qualities as a microphone. Although I suppose it can be done on a soft-modded Wii.
Any reasons at all, anyone?

I got one with my copy of Endless Ocean Blue World, and I use it to talk to my Dolphin Frank every day. Frank is the only one left in my life who understands me.

At least - thanks to the thing - I learned about Tetris Party Deluxe, which sounds blissful (especially co-op).

Wii Speak is a name of peripheral microphone sold bundled with certain games as well as separately.

I don't mean to be the asshead here, but I'd argue that Nintendo hasn't made a non-handheld console that is genuinely great since the Super Nintendo. Every console since then has had a smattering of good to great games, but none which ever really justify owning the console (IMO). With the Wii there are the two Super Mario Galaxy games...I've only played the first but it IS brilliant. I tried a bunch of other titles, but it drops off really quickly from there. Damn, that bowling game that came free with the console may be the next best thing. I'm really starting to feel like Nintendo should stop bothering with the console market and just put all their effort into handhelds.

I don't think of first party Wii games any more than Sega multiplatform games of 21st century (quite the opposite in fact), but Wii is worth owning as a second console (rather like GameCube before it). If you keep a CRT, that is.

Excite Truck and Ghost Squad.
P.S. Add Super Monkey Ball, F-Zero GX, some 'Cube controllers and a memory card to the bunch and you'll be coming back for a fix now and then.
