Are all good Scart Switchers discontinued?

Post by rmwing »

So I need a total of 6 RGB Scart inputs and was going to buy a Keene Switch and chain it with a Hama AV-100s but after I put my order in they told me it had been discontinued. Then I thought I would get the Shinybow Matrix but I can't find anywhere that sells it anymore either (or atleast ships to Australia). Does anyone know any other Switchers that would do the job?

Recently the Bandridge 5-port version has been recommended a lot. This one: http://blue.bandridge.nl/assets/structu ... nt-low.jpg

Rather cheap and seems be quite easily available all over the globe.

Does seem to have good reviews, looks like it has an S-video out on the front as well so I guess I can settle for that for my PS1 instead of Scart for now.

Thanks bro!

Have you tried contacting Ani-AV? I know they are the US distributor of the Shinybow. Perhaps they would ship outside the country?

I recently reviewed a Shinybow and to my surprise had several issues with it. It's a real shame the Keene SCART commander has been discontinued!

Well hopefully this one is good, apparently it's going to take a month to get here -_-, if I remember I'll post what it is like.

Where did you end up finding one that would ship to Aus?

The one I just got doesn't exhibit the picture shaking that BuckoA51 listed in his review. Hopefully yours will be fine also.

I can confirm that this switcher works well. For the record I bought the powered automatic switcher, not the unpowered manual one so I can't speak for that one, but this one works awesome no noticeable quality loss and switching happens seamlessly.

Does the automatic one have a manual override?

Anyone know a good place to order one of those 5 port Bandridge switches, especially for shipping to North America?

Only one I found online is this amazon.co.uk seller, who charges quite a lot for shipping

Probably not going to find anything better. I ordered the 3 way automatic from there a couple of months ago from a seller "Computer Products Online Ltd T/A CPO" but it looks like they are no longer selling the switches. They only charged 4 pounds for shipping to the USA, which was a lot less than any of the other sellers. I decided later that I wanted a 5 way and ordered one from ebay with expensive shipping (but still a little less than amazon), but that seller doesn't seem to have them anymore either.

Pretty much. I bought my Bandridge from ExpressPro seller on Amazon.co.uk, shipping was indeed pricey to get out to California.

Yeah there are a few that look like the old Hama switches but are not, at least with Amazon you have their awesome returns policy.

It's not that great, I've had a few defective/wrong items sent to me by Amazon Seller's who though refunded me refused to compensate me my return shipping if they requested the item back.

While we're on the subject, are there any particular SCART cables to look for? To use the switch I'll need one for my output (male scart to male scart, so it can go from the switch to the adapter), and after going through the trouble of locating a good SCART switch it would be dumb to screw up the signal due to crap cabling.

So Far I've been lucky, I somehow obtained an official Sega Saturn Model 1 RGB SCART while I was in the UK. Sadly still getting noise on the audio, not sure if its due to the cheap RCA cables going from my PVM female SCART to my Yamaha Speakers or the noisy AV port on Model 2 Saturns.

I think I will try and get a Model 1 Saturn next.

For my Playstations I picked this up, and so far VERY happy with it, I intend to order another one.

No I meant a plain SCART cable with SCART leads at both ends, not a console SCART cable, I already have them (mostly from retro_console_accessories).

You're just looking for a plain-jane fully shielded Male to Male SCART cable. Try to avoid the ones labeled as 9-pin as they may not work.

Quick heads-up to anyone looking to buy this switch: there are multiple sellers on amazon.co.uk, and some of them offer cheaper international shipping than the "cheapest" seller ExpressPro. I just ordered mine from The Tech Lodge which was far more reasonable, I even added a cable and it was still cheaper.

The Amazon price comparison checker is dumb and only checks for domestic shipping charges even though your account's shipping address is out of country, so you have to check them by hand.
