What would you do?

Post by GaijinPunch »

Okay, here's my plight. I didn't know the AM Show was only until Saturday. In fact, I really didn't plan my trip to Japan around this thing at all. Total coincidence. I just assumed since it was the weekend I was arriving, I'd check it out on Sunday. Well, I'm a dipshit, and now know it ends on Saturday. Here's my story:

I already have a business class ticket (round trip) from Honolulu to Tokyo. It was bought entirely on miles. My wife used the remainder of the miles and some cash to buy her economy ticket. (I know, I'm an asshole, but I'm 6'3" and JAL's economy section is for Japanese midgets). My current flight arrives at 15:00 (no way to make the show from Narita). Here's the options:

1: Take an earlier flight that arrives at 11:00. It doesn't even have business class service on the the plane. It's ALL economy, so I'd be riding in the cattle car w/ the short people. Mind you, it'll take a good hour to get out of customs and crap, then gotta wait on a train, and get to Makuhari Messe. The show ends at 15:00, so at best, I'd have 3 hours to run around... but probably more like 2. A problem on the plane, customs, or train? Might not even make the show.

2: Stick to the current plan, travel in a large ass seat and hear some crazy Engrish.

The thing is, I'm really considering picking up ESPGaluda II when it comes out. Since location tests are announced days before they happen, the chances of me trying the game out before it's released are slim to none. What to do. Need to make my decision by tomorrow.

I'm pretty tall myself and never thought JAL's economy had tight seating. Much better than when you fly between USA and Europe IMO, which is ironic, cuz that's where all the tall people are.
Anyway, I would take the earlier flight. It's not like Honolulu-Tokyo takes long anyway is it?

Im the only one so far who voted for hte business ticket..lol...i believe if you're in a more comfortable trip to japan, the overall experience for you over there will be more pleasing than to deal with some bull on economy ride and thus possibly spoiling the rest of the trip, imho.
The cave whore count in this thread is unbelievable!!!

Go to the show! I think you'll regret it if you don't at least get there for a couple of hours. I sure would!

I´d stick to the original plan.
Faced an almost identical scenario a couple of years ago with the San Diego Comic Con.
You´ll have two hours at the most. Then they´ll shut the doors and you´ll be walking around thinking you made a somewhat wrong decision.

Your wife´s on the original flight also, only in EC? That kinda settles it, doesn´t it?

JAL's Hawaii to Japan flight doesn't count -- it has the same sitty seating as their Asian flights. It's not nightmarishly long or anything, but it is about 8 hours from here to there.... 6.5 on the way back. The thing is, it's not really like a "trip". I've gone from Texas to Tokyo at least 10 times, if not more. My mother works for AA, so it was always dirt cheap, and often business class. I've got a lot more toys this time (portable DVD player for one) that can keep me busy.

The flight is full at the moment, so not sure if it'll work out, but I'm going to try to make the show. We'll see. Thanks for everyone's input.

I say you should try and make the show. I know how much you liked Espgaluda and the sequel could be fantastic. There may be lots of Cave goodies and i'm intrested to see what their online Tank Battle game is like, so your impressions of both games would be great. I'd be intrested to see what your impressions on Ibara is to.

Well, quite a few credits of Ibara is a given... just wanna try ESPGaldua II as well. As I stated on Icycalm's board... sometimes I wish I wasn't such a sell out. :)
