Sonic Lost World

Post by XoPachi »

I can already see where this thread is gonna go, but I'm one of the like three avid Sonic fans out there. I love Generations and have been extremely hyped for Lost World. Unfortunately it's on Wii U, but I'll get the system just for what is looking to be a splendid video game.

Here's a vid.

Ever since 2003, I've always wanted a larger emphasis on parkour rather than it just automatically happening as in previous games. This game has given me that in the exact most precise way I had imagined it would be. That is the selling point for me. I love how they're doing whatever the bloody fuck they want with this game. It's looking like a heartfelt GREAT time. And the fact that the 3DS version will have 4 player online foot races is a dream come true as well. I have already set aside the money for a Wii U and both version of the game. I cannot stomach the wait anymore. Been a good while since the series has disappointed me so I have high expectations for this game.

The wrap-around levels actually look like the best level structure for 3D Sonic so far, as a way of capturing the density and multiple routes of the 2D games, but I also hope those levels will comprise the majority of the game. They showed a more sparse candy-themed 2D level that looked similar to Generations and much weaker than the first/flagship stage.

Note there's also a 3DS version that will probably have completely different levels (and didn't look as good).

The candy level comes from Desert Ruins (get it? Candy...in Desert Ruins? DesSert Ruins). It did look weak but the 3DS version actually looks just like the Wii U version only weaker graphics (for obvious reasons). The levels won't be 100% different and it won't pull the bullshit Colors and Generations DS variants pulled, being strictly side scrolling.

The 3DS levels better not be half-assed like Colors DS and Generations 3DS. Seriously, after playing Rush and Rush Adventure, I was disappointed as hell in the portable Colors and Generations boring-in-comparison level design. I'd like to pick up a Wii U for this game, but I know I'm not.

Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

What you lose with that is the ability to have vertically layered platforming sections (or any magnitude of vertically high platforming), which is what made the multiple routes in the original sonic games so fluid. It was a genius way to give you "second chances" for platforming failures, in a game designed around moving blindly ahead until you run into something or miss a platform and need to pick up your rings/second chance. Only after one to three "upper section" falls were you seriously at risk of dying to a bottomless pit.
Dimahoo is a fun game.

That's lost in all 3D Sonic games. I never really find it an issue.

They are looking rather nice. Have you seen them? So far I've only seen Windy Hill, but until I was told it was 3DS, I actually just assumed it was Wii U just recorded at a lower quality. Levels are 3D and function just the same it seems.
